In Memory of: Arline Beryl Doyharcabal

A great lover of living, our mother, Arline Beryl Doyharcabal, drew her final breath on the morning of March 29, 2017, in Victoria, BC. Born November 17, 1928 in Kamloops, beautiful BC, Arline was predeceased by her parents Edward Geoffrey and Ivy Maud Foster and, just this past January, by her only sibling, younger brother Keith Kingsley Foster. She met and married our father Richard Edward Russell (1950, divorced 1970) then remarried to Rene Doyharcabal (1973, divorced 1982). Mom lived most of her adult life in North Vancouver, moving to Victoria in 2007 when various health issues required an increased level of family support. She is survived by all of her five children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren–daughter Lynne and her husband Paul D’Andrea and their daughter Angela; son Martin and his wife Pat and their children, Tara and Geoffrey; son Chris; daughter Terry and her husband Brian Fong; and son David and his wife Alice and their children Bill, Maris and Richard. Each of us has our own special memories of mom, but all of us, and her personal friends, would agree that Arline could be described as uncompromisingly unique. She was Scorpio by birth and proud of it. If she ever lacked confidence or worried about how others might judge her, it was never apparent. A passionate woman, Mom had wit and humor and a very definite flair for style and design. She loved reading and classical music and was an accomplished piano player. At various times in her life, once the five of us were out of diapers and launched into our teen years, she had time to explore and develop other interests, such as poetry, drawing and painting, acting and theater, singing, and religious studies. This is not all of who or what our mother Arline was, but we believe this is how she might like to be remembered.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    May 9/2017.
Arline was my dear & special friend! We became friends in the North Shore Chorus a choir we both enjoyed being in and participating in. We shared many interesting talks on many subjects and laughed and joked a lot. I have always felt that we were kindred spirits. I particularly enjoyed Arline’s whit and great sense of humour. She had a real intensity for living and a very harty laugh. I will always remember her little girl voice when Arline was feeling a little down. Arline would call me and tell me when we talked that I always cheered her up and was like “a good shot in the arm” . Arline had a colorful and vibrant personality, very keen mind, talented in music and many other facets of her life. I will always remember her with joy and Love in my heart.

This picture of your Mom is how I remember her, when we were neighbors on Cloverley St. A very beautiful woman, indeed! One special memory is when she made ‘Fairy Tea’ for Terry and me. We were quite young and it was a very memorable tea party for me! Thinking of you,Terry, and all your brothers and sister too. My sincere sympathy for your loss! xo
