It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather.  Arpad was born in Etes, Hungary, to Deszo and Julia Pal. He had a happy childhood with his parents and two siblings, Geza and Margit. Art moved to Canada in 1950, having secured a job as a miner in Rosedale, Alberta, and two years later, settled in Calgary. In 1959, he met Amelia Randle and a year later, they were married. Art and Amelia’s son, Stephen Pal was born in 1964. Art and Amelia had many friends and family in Calgary and were active members of Pleasant Heights United Church, today Wild Rose United Church. Art owned his own business and later worked at the Canadian Forces Base in Calgary.  Art enjoyed going to the ballet and gardening. He loved violin music and especially that of Hungarian composers. Art was an avid reader of nature and history, and corresponded frequently with his family in Hungary. A number of years after their retirement, Art and Amelia moved to Victoria, BC, a block away from the home of son Stephen, his wife Carol and granddaughters, Meagan and Danika. Art was an extremely generous man and also had a warm sense of humour.   He loved his family with all his heart and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1pm at Wild Rose United Church, 1317 1st Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.

Dear Stephen and Carol, my deepest sympathies to you and your mum. Stephen your dad sounds like an amazing man.
I love the poem that was in the obituary, I first read it in a card when my husband Paul died and the message struck a cord that remains to this day. Much love, Jan O’Neill

To the family of Art Pal!
Please accept my sincere condolences regarding the death of your husband and father. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I am the nurse who was at your house that day. You were faced with making a very difficult decision and I hope with all my heart that you truly know that you did all you could for Art, and that you did right by him, when he could no longer speak for himself.
May Art rest in peace, and may you all find comfort and strength in your heart’s and mind’s memories of him.
With kind regards, Christine Cosack, RN

    Amelia and Stephen,

I was saddened to learn of Art’s passing. I got to know him a little bit over the years and smile to myself when I remember some of long philosophical discussions I had with him. My condolences to you both and to your extended family.

    Dear Stephen,
Your dad was a caring, kind, and wise man. Throughout his varied work career, he learned the value of honest effort, and, I’m sure shared this with you. Your father will continue to be a part of your life as you remember the man he was. Yes, there is a loss for which there are no words. But there are the memories for which all who knew your dad can be grateful. May you find peace in your heart as you embrace these memories.
Stephen, you, your mom, Carol, Meagan, and Danika…and your extended family are in our prayers.
    Sam and Bunny
