Daniel Ryland “Danny” Craig, much-loved son of Tim and Hiroko, close brother of Emily, and friend to so many passed away on December 12, 2017 in his family home in Victoria, BC. He was 34.

Those who knew Danny will remember him as kind, loyal, funny, and completely unique. Danny had the wildest sense of humour and was always making everyone around him laugh. But he was also incredibly kind and generous, had the biggest heart, and was always ready to help and the first to volunteer.

Danny was born on May 9, 1983 in Glendale, Arizona. He spent part of his childhood in Japan before the family moved to Victoria in 1992.

From the day Danny first picked up the original Nintendo “Famicon”, he was an avid video gamer. He participated in online MOBA game communities and was an active member of Victoria’s local fighting game scene, even traveling to tournaments in Vancouver and Las Vegas with his gaming crew. (Vampire Savior, Tekken, and Street Fighter were his forte.)

Danny was a cherished employee at Berwick House Retirement Community in Gordon Head, where he worked for 13 years. He was loved by both staff and residents for being such a reliable, hardworking, and fun worker. In 2008, he was nominated for and selected National Associate of the Year, winning a trip to the Awards Ceremony at Disney World, Florida (he had a blast).

Danny will be lovingly remembered by his parents Tim and Hiroko, younger sister Emily and her husband Wesley, his large extended families in Indiana and Japan, and many friends in Victoria and beyond.

A Celebration of Life was held on December 20, 2017 at McCall Gardens in Victoria. The family sincerely thanks all those who attended and shared their wonderful stories about Danny. We were all very lucky to have Danny in our lives.

Danny will be interred at Royal Oak Burial Park Mausoleum, niche B-4-A.

Memorial donations in Danny’s name to the Vancouver Island Crisis Society are welcomed.
