It is with broken hearts that the family of David Brian Gaffney announces his passing.  David was born in Regina, SK on April 24, 1972 and passed away in Victoria, BC on March 4, 2017 at the age of 44 years.  He was predeceased by his grandparents and his sister, Erin Spanier. David’s greatest joy came from spending time with his two sons, Luca and Dante.  His life will be forever celebrated by his parents, Brian and Beth Gaffney of Regina; his sister Tricia (Jason Scott) and their children Hannah and Carter; his brother in law Ryan Spanier (Erin Latoski) and their children Liam, Ethan, and Cassidy; and David’s love, Meghan Peebles, her children Callie and Gabe and the rest of her family.   He will also be missed by Luca and Dante’s mother Teresa Ciccone and the entire Ciccone family.  David leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a long list of friends who will miss him dearly.

Our David was one of a kind!  He was quick-witted, talented, and quirky.  The stranger something was, the more he seemed to enjoy it! One of his very favourite things to do was take Luca and Dante on the hunt for hidden gems in the local comic book and toy stores.  He was also extremely loyal and happy to help those who needed it.  This was never more evident than the two times he donated bone marrow and stem cells to his sister, Erin.  Since his passing, we have heard many wonderful stories from his various circles of friends. These stories paint a picture of a man who was more talented than he ever knew and was loved by so many.  We will honour his life through the stories and memories we will continue to share with his sons.  His boys will always know how special he was and how much their Dad loved them.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish in Victoria on Saturday, March 11, at 12:00.

“If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever.”

Our hearts break for Luca, Dante…David’s family and his loving partner Meghan. David became my lunch time running partner in 2007 when he joined the Ministry. Our lunches were full of speed drills and heart-to-hearts. David will never be forgotten and I am thankful to have known him. Rest in peace David – we envision you with silver bulldog clipped angel wings! Dana & Lloyd Richards

It was with great sadness that we read the obituary of David. He was an especial favorite of my in-laws, Angelo and Savarina Falvo, who looked forward to visits with Dante, Luca, David and Theresa. Frank and I have many pictures from these visits. We also enjoyed spending time with him and are grateful for the support he offered us during the passing of Frank’s mother.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with you. I will be requesting Masses at Annunciation Parish, Prince Rupert for all the bereaved and David.

    love Anne and Frank Falvo

Meghan, Luca, Dante and all of David’s family,
David was always so kind; not just to me but to all he worked with. He had a ready smile and wit that will be so missed. His absence at work has affected ALL of us so profoundly.
Luca and Dante, I am so sorry that you are now facing life without your dad, and have to find ways to deal without life’s challenges without your dad’s wisdom and grace. Honour your dad by living the very best life you can live.
Love and peace be with you

we knew David’s parents back in ur Regina days and had met David then. David worked for me for a short while here in Victoria and I had the distinct honour to have mentored David for a time.

I always enjoyed my time, though brief, with David and we understand how much he will be missed by his family and loved ones.

My thoughts are with Dave’s loved ones. I know well enough that there are no words. I knew Dave through my cousin Chad and he was always a good guy. I only saw him a few times since high school, but it was always like seeing a friend when I did. I’m saddened by his loss.

I can’t imagine the pain in loosing another child and brother. My deepest sympathies.

Luca and Dante, this is so very unfair to lose your father and Heaven has gained a very special man. Although it’s been a while since I saw your Dad, he always talked of how PROUD he was to be your father. Peace be with you both.

I am deeply saddened to hear of David’s passing. I so badly want to be there to say my goodbyes but it is not possible as I live an expensive trip away.

I knew David pretty well for a time. I will never forget his articulation in our (almost daily) conversations; his raw honesty; and his ability to deliver it humourously when appropriate.

I offer warm condolences to his boys and the remainder of his family. May you each find peace in life during this unbearably difficult time.

I will miss you here David and I believe you are revelling in joy where you are. Lots of love to you forever.

I have to say that this description of David is spot on! David was indeed a caring and extremely intelligent individual. I was always amazed at how he could gracefully display both of these traits at the same time. Whenever I would say something either inaccurate or just stupid, he would pause and then with a slight smile he would politely correct me without making me feel even more stupid. Then we’d laugh! I think we enjoyed laughing at each other a lot and I know I gave him a lot to laugh about. I saw this, on many occasions, as David’s way of interacting with everyone.
I will be there on Saturday for the service and I will continue to be available for his family, his friends and his 2 boys.

  • Myrna and Len Griffin

Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to David’s family and friends at this very sad time of such tremendous loss. We wish you strength and comfort in the days ahead.
