It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debbie Westwood in Victoria, BC on July 16, 2017, at the age of 62.

Debbie is deeply missed by her beloved husband Drew; daughters Jenny (Dave) and Karen (Trevor); stepchildren Carly (Rod), Seth (Paula), and Sara; grandchildren Ashley, Megan, Emily, Austin, William, Gaby, and Jackson; siblings Alan (Dale), Larry (Nancy, deceased) and Trudi (Chris); nephews Brent, Kirt (Nicole), Matthew and Daniel.  She is also remembered fondly by her many friends at Capital City Yacht Club and in Tucson, Arizona.

Drew and Debbie spent many happy years boating with their family and friends in the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, and beyond.  Boating simply will not be the same without her.  They also enjoyed vacationing in Tucson, where they owned a home for 10 years, making memories and new friends wherever they went.

Debbie was truly an incredible lady with an easy-going attitude and an amazing sense of humour.  Laughter came easily to her and to those around her.  She had a special ability to entertain any group of people, welcoming strangers and friends into her home or on her boat with a smile and open arms.  Everyone instantly felt comfortable and relaxed in her presence.  She loved to dance and have fun, turning many ‘happy hours’ into impromptu dance parties.

Debbie will always hold a special place in our hearts for her fun-loving nature.  She would light up a room with her laughter and positivity.  She could find wit and humour in almost any situation.  We will miss her exuberance, wisdom, laughter, and sense of spirit.  She was very special to many people.

She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, who she loved absolutely with all of her heart.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm. at Capital City Yacht Club, Sidney, BC, 10630 Blue Heron Road, North Saanich, BC V8L 5S6.

Donations may be made in Debbie’s name to the BC Cancer Society to help bring a PET/CT scanner to Vancouver Island.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
