Edmund John William Higgin, will be deeply missed, though never forgotten, by his children John (Saby), Judith Templeton, Robert (Val), Susan Gains (Mike) and Cathy McRae (Rick), 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Dad was born in Saskatoon to Alfred and Ethel (nee Hill) and grew up with a large extended family. He joined the RCAF from Regina College where he was studying aeronautical engineering and playing varsity football (Western All Star 1938).

While in Ottawa on training for the RCAF, he met the love of his life, Nora Cooper. They were married in 1944 after a whirlwind courtship. Dad had a wonderful career with the RCAF which spanned 25 years and many cities throughout North America. In 1965, they moved to Victoria to start the next chapter in their life. Here Dad was a proud member of the Victoria Kiwanis Club, Victoria Probus Club and the Uplands Golf Club. Mom passed away in October of 2015 and Dad missed her every day.  They were together 72 years and created a marvelous life and legacy for our family.

We would like to thank Doctor Rosenberg and team for the years of great care provided to our parents, the Home and Community Nurses and We Care.

A private family service was held on the 7th of June.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.  www.heartandstroke.bc.ca

  • Rob d'Estrube

Ed was a pleasure to be around, a real gentleman with a good sense of family leadership from all that I could appreciate. Always welcoming with a smile in his eyes ever; ever “My Ed”, taking good care of Nora. A good straight-shooter in my experience. We have lost a man we will all miss. But we can appreciate his legacy through happy friendship with his kids who made him proud.

  • Harold Blenman

As a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Victoria, it has been my pleasure to work with Ed for many years. Ed was a loyal and hard working member of our club. On behalf of all club members, I would like to offer sincere condolences to the family.

Mom and Dad are off on new adventures but we that are left have lost our center. Dad will be missed but his strength flows in our veins and hearts to carry the legacy forward.

  • Mike Gains
