Edward Gordon Wardle, aged 92, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017 at Hart House in Victoria, B.C. The eldest child of Gordon and Amelia (Kerr) Wardle, he was born on January 9, 1925 on the home farm outside of Virden, Manitoba, and attended Springvale School. In 1948, he purchased some adjoining land and turned it into a productive grain farm. He also took over the family farm in 1962, and was engaged in farming throughout his career.

Ed married Anna Rychliwski of Winnipeg on December 28, 1968. The following summer, Ed & Ann moved to the farm, and began the hard work of landscaping, planting trees, and construction of their home. Their only daughter, Natalie Ann, was born in October 1972 and in 1974, they moved into the new home on the farm.

Ed obtained his private pilot’s license in 1958. Over the years, he logged countless flight hours and flew to many destinations in both Canada and the U.S.A. Once, even all the way to Florida. Ed & Ann were active members of the Manitoba Flying Farmers, an organization promoting the use of aircraft in agriculture. Ed was also a board member of the Springvale Church.

In 1987, Ed & Ann sold their farm and retired to Victoria, B.C.

He is predeceased by Anna; his parents, Gordon and Amelia; brothers, Melvin and William; sister, Margaret; and brother-in-law, Vernon. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Natalie (Hayato Fujigaki); sister, Ellen Turner of Salmon Arm, B.C.; brother, Ken (Jean) Wardle of Virden, Manitoba; sister, Joyce (Lloyd) Williamson of Belmont, Manitoba, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 23, 2017 in the Redwood Chapel at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, B.C.

Donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Canadian Red Cross (redcross.ca), or the charity of your choice.

Uncle Ed shared his great Love for his Family, Life on the Farm, flying his plane, nice cars, a good game of crib or scrabble, and a nice big bowl of vanilla ice cream!
Ed had such a kind heart, a beautiful warm smile, and a strength beyond words.
I will cherish each and every memory, in my heart forever.
    I will miss him.
    Love Always, Lori
