Mom (Gail) was born to Robert and Elizabeth O’Meara in 1933 in Hamburg, Germany. She grew up in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Jack and son Richie. She is survived by her son Robbie and daughter Susan (Steve); Grandchildren, Matthew, Jarret (Nicki), Jess (Joe), Mike, Amber (Joseph); Great Grandchildren Alyssa and Arley.

Mom’s accomplishments were many: Royal Jubilee Registered Nurse (1955), Legal Assistant to Jack Gatehouse (lawyer), Volunteer Caregiver, long time parishioner at Christ Church Cathedral where she worked in the nursery and did flowers and the tea. She made meals for the homeless, and happily sang in the choir with her grandson Mike. She was a long-time coordinator of Nurse’s reunions, and later did house, cat and dog sitting (often with her grandchild Jess). She was even a nanny for a while and Mom was an amazing cook. Mom’s heart was always in her work.

Some of our fond memories of her: Mom was always making lists and dad would say she needed a list to tell her where all her other lists were. She really did enjoy her sports and shared that with members of the family and her friends, especially hockey and tennis.

We will miss you and love you forever Mom, Nana, Nanner, Great Nana, Gailers.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  • Ann Oakley (nee Maclean)

I knew Gail for many years. We grew up in Victoria together, and we both attended Oak Bay High School and graduated together from nursing school at the Royal Jubilee hospital. As I look back, Gail was always a very caring and generous person who helped many people. Her death is a loss for all who knew her. My sincere condolences to her family.
