After a week at a yoga retreat, head stands and all, 82 year old Florence Simpson suddenly fell ill. Following a roller coaster week in the Royal Jubilee, compounding complications became too much and she left her body peacefully holding her family’s hands on September 22, 2016.
Born February 8, 1934, Flow was a life-long Victoria resident and a talented hairdresser and entrepreneur; she ran Empress Hair-styling and a hair school on Fort for decades. Inspired by her extensive world travels and the teachings of the AA program, yoga, and Mother Teresa, she dedicated her life to helping others and touched the lives of countless people sharing her secrets of life and health.
Beloved mother to Dana, David, Andre and Benita, and cherished “Nana” to Teresa, David, Kelsey, Mason and Malcom, Mick and Matt, with countless friends as close as family.
Her bright eyes, determination, adorable humor, endless stories and life lessons will be deeply missed. It was too soon for everyone, as she lived a remarkable, healthy life but she went out on a high note and gratefully without pain and suffering. Thankfully, she shared many words of wisdom with her family to help cope with this immense loss – one day at a time, this too shall pass, the serenity prayer…
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 14, at 10am at McCall Gardens in Royal Oak, 4665 Falaise Drive.

Candace Richardson Beautiful, beautiful Flow. How she will be missed. Flow seemed to make anyone she talked to feel as though they were the most important person in the room. Unfiltered, straight-from-the-heart, that was our Flow. Although I had only known Flow a short time during her winter visits to Gold Canyon, AZ, she was a person I admired and will never forget. Miss you so, Flow.

Flo will always be our candle in the darkness…if we were lonely she would appear at your side…in our sorrows she would pray with us…in our despair, she knew the words and phrases to comfort our hearts…A powerful friend when you needed advice.

Helen Bell I met Flo 35 years ago in St.Patrick’s Church Hall. At that time I needed a friend and Flo was at the meeting. Flo spoke as if she was speaking me. It was inspirational and we became friends. We have lost touch over the years but as AA friends we will always be there if needed.

Debra Wilson I cannot begin to talk about my experience with my dear Sponsor and friend Florence as she touched my heart in ways I cannot explain. We shared so much together and helped each other in times of need. She spoke often of her beautiful family and what each of them meant to her. We would spend hours at the gym doing yoga and excersising both our bodies and mouths (lol) sharing with each other our deepest thoughts. Carol Lewis Flow so loved her family, and her friends. She loved unconditionally, and she told her truth. She was a woman full of Grace and humility. She knew how to be fully present with others. Her adventurous nature and love of the Yoga way of life, inspired many. I will miss my dear friend, and I will always cherish the time I had with her.
