Born February 25, 1923 our dear Mom slipped away peacefully to Paradise on January 23, 2017. Predeceased by Kenneth, her beloved husband of 54 years, Wilma is survived by her children, Ruth (Jim), Kenny (Wendy) and Phil (Christine); treasured grandchildren, Shannon, Tamara, Scott(Sara), Trisha (Peter), Kimberley (Kevin), Derrick, Rebecca and 10 adored great – grandchildren.

Wilma was a Prairie girl, raised by her loving parents Walter and Margaret on a farm in Saskatchewan. She and Ken met in high school, their love blossoming as he was serving overseas. During this time, she took her nurses training at Saskatoon City Hospital, graduating in 1945. They soon moved to Victoria where they were married and she proudly continued her nursing career while raising their 3 children. “Nanny” loved reading, long walks, early morning swims, badminton, golfing, classical music and her sweet treats. Her love for the water was most apparent as she loved to float in the tropical waters of Kauai- a place she and Kenny enjoyed so much. Mom was a social butterfly in her later years enjoying regular bridge games and rounds of golf at Prospect Lake Golf Course with her many friends. With great pleasure and tremendous detail, she prepared many delicious roast beef dinners for her cherished family at Armine Place. It is there where she delighted in spending hours in the garden, often being found deep in their huge raspberry patch. Wilma never lost sight of her faith, worshipping for many years at St. Matthias and later at Christ Church Cathedral.

The family wishes to extend warm thanks to the most amazing staff at The Heights at Mt. View care facility that cared so deeply for Nanny these last two years. You are all angels in your own right.

Wilma’s tremendous strength, warm heart, kind spirit, infectious smile and unconditional love for her family guided her through life until the end. Today she soars among the angels, of course wearing a meticulously chosen matching outfit and jewels as we fondly and forever remember our dear Mom, Nanny, Auntie and friend.

A funeral service will be conducted at Christ Church Cathedral at Quadra and Rockland on Monday January 30th, 2017 at 2 pm. to honour Wilma’s memory.

Please consider a donation in her name to the Victoria Conservatory of Music, 900 Johnson Street Victoria B.C V8V 3N4 or to the Resident’s Fund at The Heights at Mt. View 3814 Carey Road Victoria V8Z 4C4.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

We lived next door to the Greenhalghs at 11 Armine Place. My parents Harold and Lil Irwin, myself and my sister Marie. I recall Wilma as being a sweet friendly kind woman and her husband Ken who used to tease me when I was a kid telling me he had witches hiding in his basement..lol He had a great sense of humour. I send my condolences to Ruth, Ken and Philip and the rest of the family.

My sincere sympathy on the death of your dear “Wilma” as I always knew her by. I worked for several years with Wilma at Glengarry Hospital–I was her part time relief Med Nurse. She was a lovely lady & I especially remember the year she gave her Christmas Day off to me so I could enjoy being with my very young children. Kind regards, Lynn Davies

Dear Ruth, Ken, Phil and all your family.
Such wonderful memories of Armine Place and our Chandler Avenue neighborhood. It was the best of times growing up there. From the birthday parties; baseball games; and pie over the back fence. I am so sorry to hear about the loss your Mom. Cherish all the good times, and know that she will be watching over you with your dad. With sympathy and sincere best wishes.

I am sad to hear of Wilma’s passing. She was always a wonderful soul, with a lot of character! While it may be a blessing considering her health in the last few years, it is still a great loss of a wonderful person. My thoughts are with the family

Dear Ruth (Jim), Kenny (Wendy) and Phil (Christine),
Know how sad I am for you and your families. Your Mum was such a wonderful person ~ a true lady. Your Mum was always so kind to me. What would we have done without the Greehalgh’s when my Dad passed away.

I loved being able to spend time with your Mum: just having tea or going to the symphony as we used to. It was always such a pleasure. I will cherish those memories.
Take care of yourselves and know that I am thinking of you.
    Karen

My deepest sympathy to Wilma’s family.
To Wilma. I just want to say toodle-oo for now, and to thank you for all the great memories. The dinners with you and Ken and the card games. The many times you and I sat and visited while Ken & Bev decided they were the offical greeters at the functions we attended. Those were great years, and wonderful memories.
    God speed.
