Grant is survived by May, his best friend, business partner, and devoted wife of 55 years.  He is also survived by his son Jeffrey (Catherine) of Victoria, and their children Nicholas and Caroline; his son Joe (Kathryn Strilchuk) and their children Patrick and AJ Sheldrake, and Jamison Strilchuk of Okotoks, AB; and his niece Charlotte Sheldrake of Victoria.  Grant is predeceased by his parents Fred and Charlotte, his brother Lynn, and his daughter-in-law Saskia.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria.

  • Ron Carter, Lara Lauzon, Brooke and Lindon

Our saddened thoughts are with you good neighbours, family and friends touched by loss of this great man. Grant is such a loss to us personally as neighbour and friend and more generally to the neighbourhood. He earned the role as central figure in the neighbourhood, always friendly, always wise advisor, always a helper in need. He is sorely missed. All our love.

  • Andrew & Shana Eversfield

Joe/Kathryn/Patrick/AJ/Jamison, we wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and your entire extended family. When I think of you Joe, I think of integrity, hard work, and selfless character. After hearing more about your Father after last Summer’s motorcycle ride and today, it’s clear you had a strong foundation from your Father and Mother and you have spread that to all those you interact with and love. That’s the power of a man like your Father, and how many lives can be impacted.

Our love to your family – Andrew & Shana

Hearing of Grant’s passing was both a shocking and difficult thing for me to hear. I have always seen Grant as one of those people who is 45 years old for their whole life; equally wise and energetic, his passion for life was an inspiration. Being my neighbour for the majority of my life, he was the first one to employ me to do small jobs around his property, instilling values such as hard work and community, values which are still very much integral in my life today. I wish I could have thanked him more for the impact he left on my life, as I always imagined coming back to Victoria some years later to talk to him about how my life had turned out, and how his guidance and recommendations in my adolescent and young adult life influenced the future person I plan to be. Whenever we chatted while I was working in his yard, I was always so grateful for how Grant could listen to my problems with university or becoming an adult and manage to make the path seem so much simpler and more manageable. I can’t thank him enough for his selflessness towards myself and my family.

My thoughts are with May and the rest of the family.

    Sam

I’m so sorry to hear to what happened. I hadn’t seen Grant (Mr. Sheldrake to me back then) in years. I have fond memories of sleepovers and visits back in the 70’s. Good times!!

All my best to everyone in the family.
