With grieving hearts, we sadly announce the passing of our well loved Giancarlo Chelini who immigrated to Canada from Italy in the 60’s. Always a brave face, a man that was so strong and courageous beyond words, who fought so hard to stay with us as long as he could, until the sad day March 18th, 2017 when his battle came to an end.

He will always be alive in our hearts.  Until we meet again, we love and will miss you so much.

Left to mourn, his wife of 59 years, Loredana; daughters, Loretta (Mike), Denise (Mike), Debbie (Daryl); grandchildren, Sabrina, Daniella, Matteo, Francesca; brothers, Ivano (Luigina) Franco (Mara); sister, Lilliana; in-laws and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.

A small private family funeral was held, therefore, no service to be announced.

We thank-you for your condolences.

Exactly one year ago today, March 18th 2017, this world lost a strong, caring and over all amazing man. It’s sad to know that he won’t be here to see our family grow up, or to see all the wonderful things coming, but I know that he is in a better place now with no pain. He made everything better for anyone, and his favourite time was when everyone was over and we were all laughing together, it’s sad to know I won’t see him for a while, but he knows we miss him and we know that he misses us. So Love you nonno, see you again some day❤️

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of Giancarlo’s passing, and to commemorate I would like to share my memory of a man who was always so kind and loving. Thoughtful, brave and fun-loving; I can remember as a kid when I would visit with his grandchildren, how Giancarlo’s face would light up at the sight of them. He was a proud grandfather who cherished his family beyond words, and was loved deeply in return. I am sure he is somewhere now, smiling down at all of them still.

    Sincerely, Danielle

I am writing to offer my condolences on the passing of my dear friend and mentor, Giancarlo. He played an important role in my life starting when I was part of his concrete construction team. He taught me a lot about life and instilled some important life lessons to me that included the importance of working hard, having fun and valuing friends and family. Giancarlo also encouraged me to leave the City of Victoria and pursue an education. I took his wise words of advice to heart and ended up spending the next 8 years at university. I remember all the great times we had together making wine, enjoying good food and I was grateful that he introduced me to his wonderful family and included me in a number of family gatherings. Giancarlo was a wonderful man with a heart of gold and strong family values. He will be missed but his spirit will continue to live in all of those people whose hearts he touched.

    Dear Loretta and Family,
I am saddened by the news of the passing of Giancarlo and would like express my deepest sympathy and sincere condolence for your loss.
Giancarlo, was one of our group working out for years at the gym religiously several times a week. Of course, sometimes we did more talking than working out. Giancarlo, an immigrant from Italy & me, an immigrant from Austria having been to Italy many times and playing soccer gave us lots to talk & argue about. It was fun, but it was also wonderful to hear him talk about his family which loved very much and to hear how proud he was of his daughters.
He was a wonderful friend and I will miss him. All my love and best wishes to you and your family. Sincerely, Fred

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a family member isn’t easy, whether it’s a cousin, father, mother, or sibling. I wish I could say or do something to take all the pain away, but I know I can’t. But what I do know is that he loved you and your family very much and looking down on you saying, “God, I raised a beautiful daughter, and lucky to have such a supporting and amazing family.” He’ll be watching over you all everyday and I think it’s such a gift to have someone as special as him to talk to, have a shoulder to cry on or even if it’s just a hug. He touched all of your hearts in many ways and will be in your memories forever, through photo albums, home videos, and in your hearts and souls. He was a wonderful friend, father and husband, and will be greatly missed. Hang in there, and be there for each other.
