It is with great sadness to announce the death of Guilherme “Bill” Furtado who passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016. Predeceased by his son Paulino (Anna), he leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years Maria, children Paula and Clyde (Sharon), and his grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Brianne, Jesse, Nicole, Abby, Lucas, Emma, Paulina, and Sarah. Also, he leaves behind his brothers, sisters, and many nephews and nieces.

Bill was born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel Acores, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1959 in search of a better life. In doing so, he taught his family what bravery and selflessness truly was.

A dedicated family man, he encouraged strong family values through both his children and grandchildren. With his strong faith, he spent much of his time involved in the church community. His faith in God helped carry him through to his final days.

Bill was a very hard worker and a passionate gardener. He managed to combine the two and worked at Butchart Gardens residence on Beach Drive for 40 years. His work was admired by many tourists from all over the world as hundreds of people a day would stop to see the Ross’ home. He was still spending time in his home garden weeks before his death.

His love of life was felt by many through his great sense of humour. He was always ready for his next prank.

Prayers will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4635 Elk lake Drive on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 7pm. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima on Thursday September 29, 2016 at 11am with graveside service at Royal Oak Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Dr Saunders, Dr Pai, and many others for all the care and support.
