Harold H. Stubbs died peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital on October 16, 2016.  He was predeceased by his wife, Joan in 2006; daughter, Leanne in 2014 and his parents many years ago.  He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Steve); his son, David (Barb); son-in-law, Michael; grandchildren, Andrea (Bob), Laura, Nick (Robyn), Ryan, Daryl, Amanda, Jay; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Julia, Jordyn, Hannah and Nolan.  He is also survived by Audrey (Jack), Cara, Kevin, Dawn and their families and many cousins.

Dad loved being a teacher and taught for 25 years until he retired.  He loved his boat and fishing.  Mom and Dad spent many happy years on wonderful trips with their amazing friends.  Later in life, he became an Old English car owner, of a 1963 Rover and was part of that community for many years.  As a family, we spent every Father’s Day at the Car Show, picnic included.  Dad loved his family very much and was proud of each and everyone of us.  He is very loved and will be missed by all who knew him.  He was the best dad and granddad we could have ever wished for.

A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.

My condolences to Janet and David and your families. Our mothers started a friendship at work, which extended to the families knowing one another (many years ago!). It is hard saying good-bye to parents. Your Dad left an impact and will be missed by all that knew him.

Mr. Stubbs was my grade four and five teacher at Monterey Elementary School in 1984-1986. He was a brilliant, engaging teacher that I remember to this day – my favorite teacher at Monterey. He taught me some very important life lessons and gave me my first (and last!) ever detention. I still remember the words he spoke to help us understand how powerful our actions were and the impact we could have on others. Sincere condolences to the Stubbs family, and heartfelt thanks to this wonderful man and educator!

  • M. Douglas Levitt

I first met Harold at Vic High and we have been good friends ever since. Now he is gone in body but never be from my mind – we were together in our marriages, watched children come, and go, but most of all he was a real gentle man and a gentleman. The Levitt family are in sorrow.

Aloha from Hawaii. My family lived next door to Harold and Joan for years on Mortimer St. and I would see them every summer and Christmas when I was visiting. My fondest memories are talking with them about the backyard plants (and weeds), Harold’s computer, and the chance of snow over Christmas (one year being the great storm of 1996, which was a topic of conversation for years afterwards). Harold will be dearly missed.
