It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Hemstreet. He was born at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria in 1928, married Lois (Foster) in 1951 at the Crystal Gardens and continued to live in Victoria all his life. He was involved in track and field for many years and officiated at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and watching hockey. He was also active in the church for many years.

He leaves behind his wife of over 65 years, Lois and three children, Wayne (Mary), Craig (Vicki) and Leanne (Scott), eight grandchildren and four great grandkids. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Thank you to the Kiwanis Pavilion staff for their wonderful care.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date and flowers are gratefully declined.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

We remember a very sweet gentle man who loved his family and supported them fully in their pursuits. Gordon was a great track and field official and dedicated several years to the sport so many young people could pursue their talents and dreams. I was one of them and my Mom also enjoyed working alongside Gordon as an official. Our sympathies go to all the family and we hope your special memories of family life with Gordon will bring you comfort at this time. Sincerely, Lorna (McHattie) Lundeen and Olive McHattie

So sorry to hear of Gordie’s passing. He was a well-loved member of the Oak Crest gang. I have many fond memories of visits to your house and the welcome your mom and dad always gave to me. Gordie was a good man. We were all fortunate to grow up in our neighbourhood at the time we did, when neighbours knew and supported each other. Hoping your family can draw on each other’s love to make it through a difficult time.
