In search of answers to life’s questions, may Hilary find comfort and peace in the Lord’s open arms. Hilary was known for her free spirit and bubbly personality; anyone could talk to her. She would always be there to help people out, talk to them and be a good listener to people’s struggles or hardships. Organizing a clothing drive at the local park to help those in need, she would go down and speak to people at tent city about life’s hardships.

An avid beach goer, she would go down there to unwind, relax and often take pictures of nature’s landscapes. Whenever offered to go on outdoor adventures or camping trips, she would always be in for it. Along with her love for the outdoors, she also took interest in cooking delicious healthy meals.

She is predeceased by her Grandfathers Jose Pacheco and Eduardo Ribeiro. Hilary is survived by mother Gorette, father Louis and brother Matt; cousins Ivonette, Ashley, Sam, Talon, Rena; Aunts and Uncles Wendy & (Marcelo) Lazaro, Joe & (Cynthia) Pacheco, Eddie Ribeiro & (Kathy Lutz), Victor Ribeiro; Grandmothers Hedviges Pacheco and Noamia Ribeiro; as well as many other friends and family.

Her fun-loving personality, big smile will continue to live on in our hearts. God bless.

A Mass of Christian Burial to be held from Holy Cross Parish, 4049 Gordon Head Road, Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 am. Fr. Wm Hann, celebrant. Burial to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Her smile was often the only thing to keep me going. Selling me a bottle of wine, she always greeted me by name. I’m devastated. I wanted to tell her i was baptized this Easter. Hear me God: There’s no better candidate for angel status than Hilary. TED

    Dear Louie, Gorette and Matt,
We were so heartbroken when we heard of Hilary’s passing. Such a lovely, friendly young woman with a big heart. She was a wonderful neighbour, and although we did not know her well enough, we will lovingly donate to Our Place in her name. When our own daughter, Andrea died at age 30, we were enveloped in the love of Our Place, just as she was during her years here.
May Hilary’s legacy change the world, as she truly wanted. May we all learn from her compassion. And may you all heal in God’s time.

    Dear Louie, Gorette and Matt,
The shock of Hilary’s death sent a wave of grief through our family. Each of my children were close to Hilary in different ways and at different times in their lives. When my youngest switched schools to go to Mt. Doug for Grade 9, Hilary (in grade 11 at the time) took her under her wing, introduced her to all her friends, ate lunch with her every day and made sure my daughter was comfortable and happy in her new school.
I was served by Hilary when she worked in the Tuscany Starbucks and in the Fort ‘n Foul liquor store – such a sweet kind young woman – always asked after my children and my husband. Sunshine: Smiles from ear to ear, a warm openness and with sincere kindness she would light up my day. I loved our random chance meetings.
My children have reached out to each other to comfort each other during this devastating loss. My heart breaks for you and your family. Please, from the bottom of my heart, stay close to each other, look after each other, be there for each other. Hilary would want that. Love Laurie

When I woke up on Thursday morning at 6:15AM, the last thing I thought I would see was Matt’s memorial status on Facebook. My heart immediately sunk with grief and sadness for her family and everyone who had the chance to meet Hilary. I met her a handful of times during high school (Ivey and I graduated together) but nonetheless, she always emanated light and happiness through her online presence. Her photography, passion for the beach and her smile always made me feel positive and happy. I always enjoyed seeing her photos of family outings like going shooting with Matt and having a bonfire with her parents. Like many people say, she was a free spirit who gave nothing but love and kindness. I was so inspired when she organized the clothing drive at the local park for the less fortunate. She desire to help and reach out to those in need is not common character trait nowadays: She was truly blessed with compassion. From what I understood, she did not have an ounce of judgment in her body, just a kindhearted soul who loved everyone unconditionally.

May she find peace and happiness in heaven and forever watch over her brother Matt, her parents Louis and Gorette, and the rest of her family. To the Ribeiro’s et al, a guardian angel is above you now. Sending my love, prayers, and condolences to you all. Rest in peace Hilary.

    – Alli

Hilary, you were one of the kindest, most honest, caring, and genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Your constant smile when we worked together made every shift a good shift. You taught me a lot about true friendships and how important it is to have a free spirit. You always left a trail of happiness everywhere you went. I hope you have found the peace you were searching for, and I’ll see you again someday in another life. ❤️

    Dear Hillary,
I didn’t know you in life, although I’m sure we’ve crossed paths at some point as we knew many of the same people. When I heard of your passing I was very confused as to why I would feel such a strong reaction to the death of someone I’ve never even met. But I cried, and came to terms with it (as odd as that sounds). Wherever you are now, I hope its better than this place, and I hope the time you spent here with us was full of love, life, and laughter! Rest in Peace.
    Love,
    A stranger called Louise.

My brother in law worked with Hilary at the old folks home, so did my daughter. One night last year I was out with friends, a rare occasion, and I popped to a dance clubs where my daughter was. My daughter was so embarrassed I was there. But I stood on the side awhile and Hilary came and danced with me.
She was bright, kind, and energetic. She was memorable.
I remember she had to introduce me to her brother. She seemed to love him and care for him dearly!
In a bar setting usually people are not real. They play a game. They pose. Hilary was genuine.
It feels almost strange to share this. A 46 year old woman who shared a dance with your beloved.
My family was touched by her beautiful open heart. Sometimes open hearts have a hard time in this world. I offer your family my prayers and condolences. Love never leaves. May you each find comfort in her continued love and the love of creator. xo

I first met Hilary when she moved up the street just before high school. I remember us getting on our old school scooters and going around the block together. I was so excited to finally have a neighbour my age move into the area! She was a very fun loving and caring person right from the beginning. We drifted during our high school years but reconnected a few years ago at a mutual friend’s birthday party where we talked for hours. Her life sounded like it had really improved and that she had grown into a wonderful young adult. She told me about how she had organized a clothing drive for the homeless population and I went and dropped off some things there. It was amazing to see her doing something so positive for individuals she had never, and most likely would never, meet. It is is just one example of her caring nature. I seemed to only run into her at busy clubs, bars, concerts and music festivals after that. She always made an effort to come over for a hug and a nice chat – no matter who she was with or how loud it was.
I, along with many others, am very saddened at the news and situation of her passing. She will be remembered and celebrated as an amazing individual with various talents – such as cooking, photography and her ability to brighten anyone’s day. Even in the wake of her passing, her message of positivity and helping others is being distributed to all. I hope that we will all learn to invest in helping others gain happiness and safety like Hilary did.

I am heartbroken for your family’s loss. Hilary was a student of mine at Mount Douglas, both in English and Grad Council. She was always such a bright light and a sheer joy to teach. Hilary was a shining example of kindness and acceptance and friendship. She will forever be in my heart.

    Hilary,
Heard the news yesterday and was shocked/devastated. I still remember working together at the Victorian 7-8 years ago with you. You had a personality that would light up the entire room. I would love shifts with you because I knew it’d be a really fun three hours. You taught me so many things, especially how to be more confident and do your own thing. I was just thinking about how you would rollerblade to work, or how we would stay after breakfast and eat tons of bacon together. You were one of the greatest people and I am so sorry to hear what happened. My condolences to your family, and hope that you are safe in heaven looking down at us now.
    Love,
    Christine
