It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to the most amazing woman we count ourselves fortunate enough to have known.

Born and raised in England, one of six children, Jecka graduated from nursing before heading to Cape Town, South Africa where she met the love of her life Lukas Meertens.  After Luke’s death in 1978, Jecka and her two children, Erik and Ingrid, emigrated to Canada and settled in Victoria.

Sharing and caring, traveling, kayaking, hiking and painting were her hallmarks.  She was kindness personified, her generosity knowing no bounds.  Sadly missed, her light will continue to shine for us all, especially in the hearts of Erik, Ellie and Lukas, Ingrid, Robin, Kathryn and Alex, her brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces and many fabulous friends, near and far.

“Life is for living”, she said and she lived it to the fullest.

A Celebration of Jecka’s Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens on Sunday, October 8th, 2017, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation http://support.heartandstroke.ca/site/PageServer?pagename=P2P18_donate and the Canadian Cancer Society http://www.cancer.ca/en/donate/?region=bc.

My Mom & Dad, Sandra & Bill Plunkett, were very good friends with Jecka & Luke in Green Point, Cape Town. I was a young boy but I’ve always remembered Aunty Jecka and Uncle Luke with great fondness. I am so sorry to learn about her passing. I’ve never forgotten Erik & Ingrid and my heartfelt condolences go out to them. Your Mom was a beautiful lady.

I just found out about jecka’s passing away. I am so saddened. what a wonderful thoughtful friend she was! We met in San Miguel over 10 years ago as fellow artists. We spent every winter their together with numerous friends sketching and painting. She loved cooking her vegetarian meals for me and we celebrated my birthday in San Miguel in 2016 at my rented casa. I will miss her so very much!
