Jan passed away peacefully on May 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Her strength and courage were a true testament of her character.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 6, 1936 to Charles Lang and Euphemia Duff, she is predeceased by her parents; husband Hal; and sisters Margaret and Jesse.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her children Stephen (Sherry), Carolyn (Reg) and Heather (Dennis); grandchildren Stephanie (Trevor), Ashley (Nathan), Andrew, Jason (Sam) and Nick (Kristen); great grandson Linden; in Glasgow, brother Charles and nephews Robert (Jean) and Mark (Anne) and many friends.

Jan had an adventurous spirit. Leaving family and friends behind, she immigrated to Canada in 1957 at the age of 21. She settled in Toronto where she met Hal and the two married in 1958. They moved out west in 1961 to raise their family in Victoria. Jan had a 31 year career with Telus when she retired in 1999, but continued on as a volunteer in the community with the Telus Ambassadors.

Her greatest gift was her family. She also treasured the relationships she had with friends, and enjoyed lunches out, coffee, aerobics, movies, the opera and the symphony, long walks, and many travels and adventures. She could often be found at the end of the day on her deck, enjoying a glass of wine and reading her book.

The family has tremendous gratitude for the love, support and kindness Mom received from many of her dear friends, Dr. Ross McKay, Dr. Andrew Attwell and in the final weeks of her life from the home and community care team and Victoria Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.

Donations may be made in Jan’s memory to the BC Cancer Agency or Victoria Hospice.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Stephen, Carolyn, Heather and Families,
I will so miss your Mum. She was a kindred spirit and I loved her. We enjoyed lots of laughs together.
I’ve known Jan since I started working at BC Tel (Telus) when I was 17 years old. We connected again at Aerobics at Esquimalt Rec and soon after started our “girls lunches” .
I marvelled at her spunk and resilience over the past few years, she never gave up, her positive outlook and her continual planning and travelling and her pride and joy in her loving family kept her going. She was very proud of you all and spoke so often of you. My deepest sympathy in your loss. There will be a large hole in your family but your memories will give you strength and help you to heal. Jan was beautiful person inside and out. Big hugs Penny

How fortunate I feel to have known the amazing Mrs. Gregg (said in my fake Scottish accent). It was so much fun to work with her @ BC TEL (now TELUS) and go to aerobic classes together. I was nicknamed “decoration” by Hal as we shared Xmas time birthdays. He often phoned to speak to Jan and we’d chat. You, her beloved family, remained her priority and I felt I knew you all via Jan’s many stories.

Jan will forever have a special place in my heart for her humour, honesty and devotion to family and friends. Thank you for sharing her with us, her “work” family.

Big hugs and her spirit will live on strongly through you all. Holly Frederickson
