John has left a lasting impression on so many. After living with cancer for two and half years, he peacefully passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. John was a gifted carpenter whose exceptional workmanship on custom-built homes over his long career was admired by many. He was a fisherman who spent many hours on the water with his brothers. He was an outdoorsman, a hunter, gatherer, and gardener, a man who could fix anything. He shared his valuable knowledge with others and was always available to lend a hand. A dedicated father and husband, he provided a solid foundation and beautiful life for his family. He leaves behind his wife Lesley and their three children, Nigel, Megan and Emily.

Born on May 27, 1953 in Victoria, John was one of a family of 10 children. Theirs was a busy house filled with the smells of home cooking and the sounds of a hard-working family. John is predeceased by his mother Helena (Sally), brother Richard and sister Sharon (Eric), and leaves behind his father Norman, brothers David (Sylvia), Bob (Eylin), Gordon (Julie), Danny (Christine), Steven (Tiffany) and his sisters Elaine (Robb) and Dianne (Jerry), as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was also much loved by sisters- and brothers-in-law Jennifer, Prudence (Bruce), Richard, Consttance, Christine (Dale), Beth (Garret), Andrea (Ian), and many more nieces and nephews.

John lived life to the fullest, creating memories, travelling, building, inventing, fixing, and making sure everyone was looked after, safe and comfortable. He was loved and will be missed by family and friends.

The family invites you to share in a Celebration of Life on August 1, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m., at Church and State Winery, 1445 Benvenuto Avenue, Brentwood Bay.

John was a great guy, I remember once I had pulled from driving to answer a phone call. John did not know it was me, and knocked on the car door to make sure evrything was okay, having seen me pull off the road. That’s the kind of guy John was, he would help anyone at any time. I will truly miss him. To all of the Webb family, thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.

Dear Lesley, Nigel, Megan and Emily,

John was a great cousin, a wonderful person and the best “Santa”! – All of you contributed so much to our family events over the years. John was a great example of the power of positive action; he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Dear Lesley,

John was my best companion and friend at Sacred Heart. Life took us in different directions after elementary school, but I always kept up with how John was doing through my mom. (My mother Winnifred is Norman’s sister.)
It is with much sadness that I received the news of John’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.

    Best wishes,

    Kevin Doyle
