Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, John Allen was welcomed into heaven by the Saviour he loved on February 5, 2017.  His devoted wife Cindy, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Andreas, grandchildren Anika and Benjamin, siblings Barb, David, Russell (Tammy), Leslie (Heather), and sisters-in-law Sylvia Hill and Sherry (Brent) Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews will miss him deeply. However, we all rejoice with thanksgiving that he is at home with the Lord.

Born in Northern Ireland on August 19, 1949, he lived his life with grace and a passion for serving the Lord.  His radiant smile, fun-loving personality and enthusiastic singing never faltered even during his illness and he exhibited gratitude and contentment every day of his life.  He will be remembered for his love of studying the Bible, and his dedication to preaching and teaching from it.  He truly loved the Lord, and it showed.  Throughout his year of battling cancer, he was blessed with peace that passes understanding.

We would like to thank all who have loved and encouraged John all through his life, especially his family, friends and our wonderful church family at Oak Bay Gospel Assembly.  He loved and appreciated each one of you and you all loved him in return.

There will be a graveside service at 11 am on Thursday, February 16th at Royal Oak Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at the Church of the Nazarene (Quadra Street) at 1:30 pm.  All are welcome.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am surprised to see this notice as we were kids together. I am thrilled that you are with the Lord. All the family I know God will comfort and guide all your family. I might see you soon. Until then enjoy being at the feet of Jesus.

My condolances on the passing of John. The last time, not so long ago, we shared our experiences on the peace that comes through what others see as suffering. It was a privilege to have known such a caring and loving man. What a comfort to know he is in the arms of a loving Saviour. Love to you at this time. Gordon Corns

Cindy and family, you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. John’s faithfulness to the Lord was evident…from our days in youth group to the present. Whenever our paths crossed over the last few decades, it was usually because the Lord drew us to the same place…often in later years at Oak Bay Assembly or Westview Bible Chapel when we were “home” for a visit. Praying you will be encouraged by the strength the Lord makes available to us because He is our strength. (Isaiah 26:3, 4; 40:28 – 31)
