It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Moniz Andre de Melo on March 3, 2017. Joe was born in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal on March 27, 1947. He leaves behind his wife Maria of 45 years; children Ricardo (Kristina), Roberto (Sara), Lisa (Jerry), & Emanuel; 7 grandchildren Alyssa, Mateo, Sydney, Tiago, Aryana, Mya and Cristiano; one brother and two sisters and many family members and friends.

Joe immigrated to Canada in 1971, the year he married his love Maria. They raised their children in the City of Victoria. He spent most of his years making beautiful stone masterpieces and transforming landscapes adding beauty all over British Columbia.

Joe had a strong work ethic and was always lending a hand to many. He instilled these family values in his children and grandchildren. He also spent countless hours volunteering his time at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, volunteering at many festivals, helping to build the parish or removing snow from the church parking lot with his bobcat. He started the very first EVER Holy Spirit festival in Victoria. Joe was a champion sueca player who loved to play cards.

He will be missed by his coffee buddies, and his seat will always be reserved at Tim Hortons, Royal Oak.

He touched many lives and he will be forever missed.

Prayers will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, on Tuesday, March 7th at 11:00 am followed by burial at Royal Oak Burial Park.

The de Melo family would like to thank the nursing staff and volunteer workers at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care who treated Joe with love and compassion during his final days.
