Lily passed away peacefully February 24, 2017 at age 98. She is survived by her children: Cheryle (Perry Brewer), Buzz (Denise), Edna, Toby (Karen), and Jack; grandchildren: Toby, Virginia, Valerie, Andrew, Becky, Cindy, Kristin, Justin, Tyler, and Samantha; great-grandchildren: Cortland, Alissa, Kyle, Hayden, Lucas, Alex, Ian, Brydon, and Lily; honorary grandchildren: Stephen and Taewyn; siblings: Dorothy (Russ Wilson), Pearl, John (Barb), Ruby (Paul Vrana), Bob, Grace (Ron Coulter), and Les; sisters-in-law Laura Wilson and Maudie Anderson; and more than 70 nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin in 2001, her son Roger in 2008, her parents, George and Eileen (nee Magrath) Dunn, and her siblings Blanche, May, and Ross.

Lily was born in Davidson, SK, on October 5, 1918. She and Ed homesteaded near the town of Big River, SK. She brought her first 4 children into the world on the homestead without benefit of electricity and indoor plumbing. In 1950, she and Ed moved their family to Victoria where her 2 younger children were born. In addition to the love, care, and encouragement she always gave her family, her home served as a very low-cost daycare, before there were such things as daycares, for a number of children of working mothers. Lily regularly worked, in the 1950s, as a wholesale egg grader, and in the decades that followed as a grocery, pharmacy, and bakery cashier.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nena Edmunds and the nursing staff at VGH, 6 Floor South, the nursing and support staff at Glengarry Hospital, and Dr. Michael Jones, her long time physician.

A memorial service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria on Friday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1001 Cloverdale Ave, #106, Victoria BC V8X 4C9.

My prayers go to Lily’s family and friends which are many. I had the opportunity and pleasure to know Grandma Wilson and to be able to call her my grandma. Her best and finest quality, that of a loving nature, blessed everyone who knew her. She will always be remembered with fondness and love. What a wonderful legacy.
