With great sadness, we announce that Lois died peacefully at home following a short illness surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by her husband Ralph, daughter Cydney Higgins (Roger), son Greg (Victoria), six grandchildren (Kelly, Virginia, Keegan, Sean, Megan and Julia) and her network of dear friends. Predeceased by her beloved parents (Cecil and Min Strachan), sister Carole Jones (Tut) and son Peter (Aimee).

Born in Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay), Lois enjoyed a happy and idyllic childhood with her parents and extended family. After her marriage in 1949, she worked in a range of administrative positions in Montreal and Boston while Ralph pursued his surgical specialization. They settled in Victoria BC in 1960, where she led an active and fulfilling life with her family. Lois was a warm and caring mother with a very positive and outgoing personality who possessed a great sense of humour. She always added a touch of fun and zest to social events. Over her full life, she enjoyed a wide range of sports including skiing, tennis, sailing and golf, in particular. Summers were spent cruising on the BC coast, and, following Ralph’s retirement, winters at Woodhaven Country Club in Palm Desert, CA were a great source of enjoyment for Lois. She served a term as Ladies Club Captain at the Victoria Golf Club (VGC). She also participated with great enthusiasm in related activities, such as annual skits nights, with her wide group of close friends at both the VGC and Woodhaven. Although her physical abilities were curtailed during the last decade of her life, due to a stroke, she continued to enjoy her family and regular gatherings with her bridge buddies.

The family would like to thank Drs. Charles Medhurst and Mark Lawson and caregivers, Aryn and Maureen in particular, whom provided excellent care and comfort to Lois during the period of her disability.

A gathering for friends and family will be held at the VGC, 1110 Beach Drive, Victoria, BC, on Saturday, November 11th, 2017, from 3 to 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Red Cross.
