Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92.  She will be dearly missed by her loving daughters Sheila and Maureen, son-in-law Douglas, nieces Cathy (John), Diane (Carl) and Gaye and nephews Gordon (Wendy), Bill (Kim) and David and their families.  She is predeceased by John, her beloved husband of 63 years, her sister Mary, brothers Thomas and Gordon, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Ruth, and Audrey.

Margaret was born and raised in West Vancouver, graduating from Inglewood High School in 1942. She met John shortly after the end of the war, married and together they moved to Victoria. She worked for the Royal Bank in both Vancouver and Victoria and in later years for the Treasury Department of the provincial government. She was civically minded and supported a wide variety of charities and organizations over the years.

Margaret had many interests in her long-lived life.  She was an avid reader, enthusiastic dinner table debater, a lover of music, ballroom dancing and travel, a talented seamstress, passionate gardener, a wonderful homemaker, and Mum. She loved her home of 65 years and cherished the friendship of her many long-time neighbours on Aldridge.

A Celebration of her Life followed by a reception will be held on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at 2 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to a charity of your choice.

We always felt after visiting Auntie Margaret that we must make a greater effort to keep in touch regardless of the distance travelled. We felt so welcome and enjoyed our time with her and Uncle John. Now we regret the times we missed. Whether in her home on Aldridge or her care home, we always experienced her graciousness and warmth. In the last years, growing more frail, she could still hug you tight! Simply put, she was a “lady” loved and admired by family and friends. Thinking of you …Sheila, Maureen and Doug… in the midst of your grief.
    Love Gordon, Wendy and family.

The Pinkneys were often invaded by Maureen’s gang of high school friends. I remember their hospitality, often punctuated by Mrs. P’s keen powers of observation & occasionally sharp tongue! Later, during a couple of visits with my young children, she was overly generous with the cookie jar. When I last saw her in Beacon Hill Villa, her body may have struggled, but her mind was as sharp as ever. A long life, well lived, by a kind spirit!

Such a wonderful and classy lady I ever met in my banking career. Will sure miss her. Take good care of yourself, Maureen and Sheila. Your mother is now enjoying her new journey with your father in heaven.

We were so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. I used to take her to visit Elsie when she was alive and we had some good conversations on the way. She was a lovely lady and I am sorry that we didn’t stay in contact when she left Aldridge. Had I known where she had gone I would have visited her. She will be greatly missed by many. Sorry that I won’t be able to attend the service as I will be away in Hawaii, but I will be thinking about all of you on the 29th.

Please accept our condolences on the loss of your mum. From what we have heard she was a wonderful lady and a great mum and well respected. She will always be in your hearts. May God bless her.

Maureen, Sheila: I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Pinkney. I often referred to her as “Grandma 2”. I’ll cherish those visits across the street, and will always remember her kindness and sweet personality. She was an amazing lady and I am glad I got to call her my friend.
