Margaret was born in Winnipeg, daughter of William and Jennie Sheppard, on December 16, 1915.  She attended Winnipeg schools, graduating from Kelvin High in 1932.

Her first employment was with Sun Life of Canada in January 1934 where she remained until the birth of daughter, Shelagh Joan, in October 1945.

Married to David Lorne McDougall in 1943, she enjoyed a long happy married life and travels until his passing in January 2000.  Her earlier life was active as a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Epsilon Chapter) and Girl Guides where she rose through the ranks to become Area Commissioner for greater Winnipeg and Provincial Secretary.  Before leaving for Victoria in 1986, she and her husband became active members of James Bay New Horizons.

After the passing of her husband and daughter, Margaret moved to Shannon Oaks where she enjoyed the activities and company of fellow retirees.  She was predeceased by husband, David; daughter, Shelagh and brother, Jack and is survived by grandson, Kevin (Toronto); two nephews in Toronto and cousins in Ireland.

Margaret’s ashes will be laid to rest with her beloved David at Royal Oak Cemetery.

My sympathies are extended to Margaret’s family and friends. My connection to Margaret was through the Canadian Club of Victoria which she served diligently as secretary of the executive for many years. She continued as a member, regularly attending luncheon meetings until recently. She will be missed by our long-time Canadian Club members and by her friends at Shannon Oaks.

Margaret was a Life Member of the Canadian Club of Victoria. She served on the Executive for many years and, until very recently, regularly attended our monthly luncheons. Margaret was our long-time Secretary, who, well after home computers had become commonplace, continued to type out flawless Minutes on her typewriter and distribute them by mail. She was a remarkable person who will be greatly missed by her many friends in the Canadian Club of Victoria.
Our sincere condolences to her family.
    Ellen Stensholt
President, The Canadian Club of Victoria
