It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Mary Gracey in her 98th year.  Margaret was born on November 13, 1918 in Leicester, England, daughter of Rupert Claude Douglas Cooke and Elizabeth Cooke.

Margaret was a legal secretary in Leicester leaving to manage the family company during the latter part of World War II.  During the Second World War, Margaret met Rupert Stanley Proverbs, a member of the Canadian Scottish Regiment.  Margaret immigrated to Canada in 1946 to marry Rupert.

Rupert and Margaret moved to Prince George where they had two children – Rosalind Mary Thorn and Trevor Basil Proverbs.  In her initial years in Prince George, Margaret was busy raising her family.  From the 1960’s until her retirement, Margaret worked at the National Film Board, Northwood Pulp, law offices and the RCMP.

After Rupert’s passing in 1971, Margaret married Robert Edwin Gracey in 1978.  Margaret and Bob moved to Kelowna where they lived until Bob’s passing in 2009.  They loved Kelowna and had many good friends with an active social life.  Margaret remained in Kelowna until she moved to Victoria in 2014.

Margaret loved to travel.  She traveled back to her beloved England many times to visit family and friends.  Other travels took her throughout the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.  Margaret loved cruise ships and she took at least 30 cruises with Bob, family and her close friends.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Rosalind Thorn (Robert who has passed); her son Trevor Proverbs (Wendy); grandchildren Geoffrey Proverbs (Jennifer) and Tracey Proverbs, and her brother Brian Cooke (Diane).

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Trillium Douglas Care Community for their attentive care and kindness shown to Margaret.

A Celebration of Life will be held in England in September 2017.

If desired, contributions may be made to Canucks Place Children’s Hospice (www.canuckplace.org) in Margaret’s memory.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To Roz Thorn. We saw notice of your moms passing in a Canadian Scottish Regiment notice. It sounds as if she had a great life but it is always hard for those left behind, especially when you have had them for so long. Thinking of you. Murray (Hon Colonel Canadian Scottish) and Lynda Farmer
