It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Fernanda Medeiros.  Mom was born in San Miguel Azores. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jose Carreiro Medeiros and her precious grandson, Grant Medeiros. Mom was a loving mother to Berta (John), Octavio (Gail) and Walter; grandmother to Angela (Daryl), Michelle (Ali) and Michael (Jill); great-grandmother to Madison, Paige, Jonty, Hannah, Beckett and Enzo. She is survived by her youngest brother, Joao Sousa; sister-in-law, Berta; niece, Michelle; nephew, Paul and great-grandnieces Marissa and Kali; many nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada and Portugal.

Mom was such a hard-working woman who always thought of us before herself. She had a fantastic sense of humour and was a great cook. Anyone that spent time with her couldn’t help but love her. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved great-grandchildren.

We would like to thank Dr Sarah Chritchley, Dr Williams and the caring team from Palliative Care.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 Noon on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Berta, John and girls (now women)I just learned of the passing of Maria. My thoughts are with you. Maria always made me feel special. I am sure that others feel the same.

I was saddened to hear that Fernanda passed away. We were neighbours for a number of years and had many a happy visit with her and Joe before he passed away. Wally was a friend of my youngest. We enjoyed the fruits of her garden, which she enjoyed tending until it became a hardship to her. She is at peace and a well earned rest. Mary

Grandma Maria was like a mother to us all with her loving and caring soul. She could keep up the laughs with the best of us with her combination of Portuguese pride and great sense of humour. No matter what subject you were talking to her about she would always keep the mood light and pleasant. What I’m going to miss most about Grandma Maria (aside from her amazing cooking) is her wisdom and knowledge from all her life experiences that we could have acquired and passed down to our younger generation. May she rest in peace.
