Marvel Wassill passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018 in Victoria BC following a brief illness.

Born in Melville SK, she spent her early employment years in Calgary AB before moving to Victoria BC, where she worked for many rewarding years at Victoria General Hospital. Left to mourn her passing are sisters Alice Banister of Duncan BC and Midge Walden of Saskatchewan, along with many nieces and nephews who will always remember her as much-loved “Auntie Marv”.

Disobeying her insistence on her self-penned obit with “just the facts”: Marv was an indomitable spirit and inspirational presence throughout our lives. Although of limited mobility in later years, she was never confined by it. She consumed the daily news voraciously, followed her favourite stocks with zeal, and loved to discuss world events and the state of the markets. But her passion was generally reserved for her family, with whom she kept in constant contact, and would always offer advice and – covertly – assistance, in equal measure. Although our late-night chats have ceased, her “Marv-ness” will always be cherished.

A service will be held Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at  McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC followed by an informal reception at 1475 Pandora Avenue, Suite 205, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

I remember Marvel well. I met her in 1967 when I started working at St. Joseph’s Hospital. We all felt like we were a big family. Once you met her you never forgot her. Bless her.

Marv was an independent soul who continuously did her best to keep abreast of society, business and current events. She was always ready to share and discuss most anything, including her savings and investment skills, and truly had an open and inquisitive mind. We will always cherish her perspective and remember her in our hearts.

I met Marvel when I worked at Victoria General Hospital (Fairfield) late 70’s. Her beautiful smile and cheekiness were infectious.

She told me of her illness as a child which would have made anyone else subdued etc., She always made me laugh
and never had anything bad to say about anything or anyone.

I feel honoured to have known her.

Going to miss those 5 minute phone calls that she had full control of. We would always laugh, at the end of the call it was thanks for calling, click and I hadn’t even said anything yet. Rest in peace.

I was so happy to spend time with Marvel over the years discussing the stock markets and her holdings along with the overall economy in general. She was vivacious and cocky in her outlook on the world. I will miss our time together and so pleased she spread her love of life with so many people. See you in a future life Marv!
