With sadness, the family of Mary Therese Moreau announce her passing Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Mary was in her 96th year of a full and rewarding family life. Fortunately, Mary’s children were able to be at her side through her last few days. Her death was calm, peaceful and without discomfort. Mary will be remembered by her family of eleven children, Mary-Lu, Yvonne (Paul), Jerry (Susan), Jeannine (Frank), Dan (Mary), Joe (Lynn), Jack, Suzanne (Todd), Lise (Kevin), Phil (Michaela) and Paul, her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, her extended family and friends. She is survived by her sister Yvonne, predeceased by her husband Dr. Joe Moreau, her four siblings Elodie, Henry, Doc, and Teddy, and her daughter-in-law Sandy.

Mary was born on a farm near Alvena, Saskatchewan in 1922; however, she grew up on a farm in Eldersley, Saskatchewan. After one year of nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Victoria, BC, she left to marry her sweetheart Joe upon his return from World War II. They eventually settled in Victoria where she lived for almost sixty-five years. Mary’s life was focused on her family and faith. She was a member, as well as for a time, president, of the Catholic Women’s League, managed the sale of religious articles at St. Patrick’s Church and was involved in many other parish activities.

Prayers will be offered on Friday, February 16th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Mary’s son Father Paul on Saturday, February 17th at 12 Noon in St. Patrick’s Parish, 2060 Haultain Street with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

I met Mary at Craigdarroch Care Home. She was a loving lady, bright, full of fun, good sense of humour, loved to play cards. Most of all, she was a prayerful woman who showed and shared her faith, prayed for the staff and many others. Her daily devotions were part of her routine which staff learned were important times for her. She spoke of her family often with love, concern and pride. She would share the successes of her children and grandchildren with the staff. I remember her love and, of course, her hearty laugh and smiling eyes. Great lady. Glad I had the privilege of meeting her.
