Born: July 28,1958 – New Westminster, BC

Died: March 28, 2017 – Victoria, BC

Nancy passed away at age 58 in the home she adored in Victoria with her loving husband Norm by her side.

Nancy is predeceased by her parents Tom and Vivianne Maunders late of New Westminster, BC.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years Norm, son Michael Perry (Ana) and son Bryan Thomas.

She is also survived by her brother Jim Maunders (Lisa), brother Don Maunders (Sue), sister-in-law Sheilagh Antoniuk (Tony), sister-in-law Terry Kelly- Laviolette and many nieces and nephews.

Also, left to mourn Nancy is her lifelong friend and partner-in-crime Janet Gates McPhee.

Nancy was born to nurse and this passion took her to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where she obtained her RN in 1981.

While at nursing school, Nancy met and fell in love with Norm, and after graduation they re-located back to British Columbia and were married in 1984.  The lower mainland was great but Vancouver Island was calling so they moved to Victoria in 1991.  In Victoria, Nancy and Norm continued their studies at UVIC, graduating together with a BSC Nursing in 1994.

Nancy was a proud and dedicated member of the Royal Jubilee Hospital Emergency Health Care Team until illness ended her career.

Nancy passed away from the complications of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), an incurable and debilitating degenerative brain disorder, which she fought with grace and dignity for many years.

MSA robbed Nancy of the ability to do many things, but it never diminished her sense of humour, her love of family and friends, and her passion and zest for the best things and experiences in life.

The family invites you to join us to celebrate the life of our wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Thursday April 6th, 2017 at 11 am at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC., with reception to follow in the Sequoia Centre.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the MSA Coalition in memory of Nancy.  www.multiplesystematrophy.org

    Dear Norm and Family;

I can not imagine the loss you are feeling at this time. Nancy was a beautiful soul who brought so much joy and laughter to many of us at work. I met Nancy in the ER where she was always respected as an excellent nurse and then CNL. Her expertise, leadership, compassion, sense of humour and personal integrity was so welcomed by patients and staff. I was also fortunate to be able to spend a few social times with her, which I always enjoyed and remember her so fondly for her very quick wit that brought so much laughter to all of us. I know how much her family met to her, the times you spent together and how she would be so proud when speaking with us about her family.
Please accept my sincere sympathy at this time. I know that she will always be with you in your heart and hopefully with time the sadness you feel today will be replaced by the many fond memories you will share with each other in the future.
    Jane

To Norm, Bryan, Michael and Ana,

We are deeply saddened by Nancy’s passing and will certainly miss her. We spent endless hours together at the school, baseball parks and hockey arenas. We were fortunate enough to have known her and always enjoyed her calm demeanor and dry wit. She definitely was the calm and glue in a household full of ‘boys’. You can take comfort in knowing that you were her pride and joy. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Nancy at RJH ER. I was sad when she stopped working as our CNL, but enjoyed bumping into her at Vanilla when she went there for coffee.

When my husband left me in 2008, Nancy and her walking group reached out to me and donated a whole bunch of stuff like baby clothes and diapers to help me when I was in a time of need. She was so kind. It was a very touching gesture that I will always remember.

I will never forget Nancy. She was a fantastic nurse and she will be missed.
    thanks for reading this
