A public memorial will be held on Saturday, October 29th, 2 pm, McCall Gardens Funeral Home, 4665 Falaise Drive for our dear mother who was summoned home to be with her Lord and Saviour on September 15, 2016.

Olive’s journey began in London, England where she was born to Frank and Agnes Manning and older sister Eva Grace on October 4, 1917.  In 1929, the Mannings immigrated to Canada settling in Victoria.  Olive married Victor Clarke in 1943; and four children ensued: Peter (Lois); Elizabeth (Bryan Peebles); Sarah and Stephen (Cathy).

Victor was called home in 1982, leaving the family bereft.  With characteristic courage and faith, Olive carried on, continuing to make the family home a haven of warmth and hospitality.  After almost 60 years in her home, Olive came to live with Sarah in 2007.

Ill health brought Olive to Selkirk Residential Care Home in 2012. Olive never wanted to end her life in a facility, but for the next four years, family, friends and caregivers marvelled at her gentle contented spirit while she lived out her lifelong principle: “To accept with grace the things we cannot change.”

Confined to her bed, Olive looked forward to her daily outings with family along Selkirk Waters where she would happily return the enthusiastic greeting of each dog she passed.   Her last walk, the afternoon before her passing, was an especially happy one.

Sad as it is to say goodbye, none of us has the heart to begrudge this dear lady the joy of entering her “forever home”.  Left to mourn are her children and the grandchildren:  Andrew, Kathy, Michael Peebles; Jim, Janis, John, Jeffrey, Josh, Brandy, Tia, Bert Clarke; Jordan, Stephen and Nathan Clarke; spouses and 17 great grandchildren, each one beloved in Olive’s eyes.

The family is grateful for the kindness of friends, neighbours and fellow believers, including those at Oak Bay Gospel Assembly and thanks the Selkirk staff who helped to ease Olive’s final years.   “Precious in the sight of the Lord are the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15)
