It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our dear Patricia Margaret Light, wife and mom who slipped away peacefully on June 17, 2017 at Mt. Tolmie Lodge, her home for the last six months. She was born in Vancouver, BC and moved to Rossland a short time later where she met and married her beloved husband and best friend of 59 years, Bruce Light. After a short time in Vancouver, Bruce was transferred to Nelson, BC for a few years where their daughter was born. A short 3 years later after another transfer moved them to Cranbrook BC to welcome their son. Pat met many of her lifelong friends in Trail, Vancouver, Nelson, Cranbrook and Abbotsford while working at BC Tel with whom she maintained in contact with throughout her life. In 1971, the family moved to the West Coast, settling in Abbotsford for 28 happy years and raising their 2 children. Every summer was spent at a different swimming pool, taking their children to swim meets. When not on the road, Pat was a passionate gardener and always had a breathtaking yard and immaculate house. Pat and Bruce moved to Vernon in 1998, where they spent time at the beach and in the garden and with family. Pat and Bruce traveled many times to visit their son and his family who moved to Austin in 1994.

After many trips to Victoria to visit her grandchildren, they decided to relocate to Nanaimo in 2003 to be close to their daughter and her family. After 10 years in Nanaimo and many trips to Victoria, declining health led to another move to Victoria, BC. It was a hard move leaving their lovely home and garden but have really enjoyed living in Victoria and being closer to family.

Pat was a quiet soul who loved spending time with her family, as well as being a loyal and loving friend to many. Pat enjoyed listening to music especially her favourite “Bee Gees” group. Patricia was an avid reader and could be found curled up with her favourite mystery or watching English Detectives shows on TV.

Pat will be remembered always for being welcoming, hospitable and compassionate. Pat had a heart of gold and will remain, a sparkly star forever looking out for us.

The last few days were sad and difficult for the family, but Pat was peaceful and comfortable, when early Saturday night Pat left us while her children and husband were at her side.

She is survived by her husband Bruce Light, daughter Lysanne Hassel, (Thomas), of Victoria, son Randy Light, (Renie) of Austin TX. She also leaves her 5 grandchildren Simon Hassel, Amy Hassel, Alex Light, Hannah Reeves and Leo Light.

Patricia is also survived by her two sisters Betty Kelly (Joe) and Francis Allen, and two brothers Richard Allen and Gerry Allen. Patricia is predeceased by her father Richard Allen; mother Mary Allen and sister Joan Allen.

The family wishes to thank Dr. F. Edora whose compassionate care has been constant during the last few months and Dr. F. Muller prior to her long-term care. The Mt. Tolmie care givers, especially Ramona, Ian and Fran. Her friends,Cynthia, Vivian, Stephanie and Rochelle and every member of the wonderful staff too numerous to mention.

A Celebration of Life will be in August.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society Canada.
