It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Peter. He passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Victoria General Hospital. Born and raised in Victoria, predeceased by his father, Reverend Moi Fong Leung and mother, Mae Chan, 2 brothers and 8 sisters.  Survived by his sister, Lydia. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Cynthia.  A true love story to behold.  They often danced the night away in their younger years. Survived by his children and grandchildren: Cary – Karsen, Jarryd; Steven (Patty) – Nathan, Tamiya; Darlene (Randy) – Brandon, Leanne(Taylor), Jordan. He loved his family deeply.

Peter lived a full life, and did it all “his way”.  A successful business owner, Renfrew-Fairfield Dry Cleaners and Victoria Travel Shoppe.  He also enjoyed his time as a Rotarian during his business years.  His passion was golf, a long-time member of the Gorge Vale Golf Club.  Absolutely loved the game, but it drove him crazy trying to perfect the mechanics.  You would know why if you saw him putt.  “Goong” was his grand-kid’s biggest sports fan, attending every game that he possibly could.   He was very proud of all their achievements and the fine adults they have become.

The family thanks the Doctors, Nurses, LPN’s, and HCA’s on 6CNorth and 7DSouth at VGH.  The staff was marvelous in providing the care and compassion for Peter throughout his stay.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Victoria Hospital Foundation in Peter’s name.

No Service will be held as per his request, but he would love it if you raised a glass in his memory. Cheers!

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  • Earl & Annette

Cynthia & Family: Annette and I are very saddened by Peter’s passing. We have the happy memory of the lovely lunch together last fall in our visit from Kentucky to Victoria. Peter and I played ball-hockey in his father’s church basement in 1941+ where I also lost half of a front tooth! Even better memories in later years during frequent visits “back home”. Along with Peter, the Der family were precious in those early years. Peter was always the gentleman and he will be greatly missed! Our prayers will follow you in these days of adjustment. We commit Peter into the Lord’s care as we do for you and the family. Love, Earl & Annette McInnes

  • Donna Hay

    Cynthia and family

I haven’t seen either of you in the weight room at Commonwealth in quite a long time, so not sure if you were still able to go. I certainly enjoyed chatting with Peter – and you – when we did cross paths. And Jim always spoke fondly of Peter. My thoughts are with you as you begin this next journey and I trust family and friends will rally to provide support. “Grief is just love with no place to go.”
Sincere condolences, Donna Hay (for Jim Chow)

  • Bob Beazley

Dear Cynthia: how sorry I was to learn of Peter’s death. We met at Commonwealth Gym some years ago as you will know, and I was always taken with his good spirit in the face of some considerable physical difficulties. I can see him now making his way about with his cane and working that rowing machine.

No doubt you will have many happy memories of your own, and I hope they are of comfort to you and your family at this time.

    Best, Bob Beazley

I met Mr. Leung about 45 years ago while I was a junior member at the Gorge Vale and I will always be grateful for the many, many, many, many tips that he gave me on how to improve my game. He was a good man and will definitely be missed by all that knew him. Our thoughts go out to Mrs. Leung and the entire family and we raise a glass in his memory. “CHEERS” Mate!
