Our dear mother, grandmother, Ruth, quietly passed away October 8, 2017, at Island View Place, Saanichton, BC at the age of 90. Ruth was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan July 10, 1927. She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 2008.

Ruth is survived by her 4 children (William, Brent, Elizabeth, Ted), 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was an RN and had an interesting nursing career which lasted over 40 years, both in Saskatchewan and later in BC.

Ruth loved learning so she completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Victoria. She also joined a writer’s group in Sidney and loved to entertain everyone with her human-interest stories.

Ruth loved nature, becoming an avid bird watcher as well as dabbling in photography.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at the Presbyterian Church, 9296 East Saanich Road on Friday, October 20 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vancouver Island Regional Library.

I first knew Ruth when we both were employed by CRD in Saanich Community Nursing and
later as “older” students in the BScN program at UVic. Ruth never paid attention to her age, always open to new ideas and new accomplishments. My condolences to her wonderful family.

Please accept my deep sympathy in your loss of Ruth. I knew her, and enjoyed hearing her interesting life stories, when driving her to the Victoria Branch United Empire Loyalists meetings. I think Ruth was proud to have proved her Loyalist descent earning the honourary title of UEL.
