With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Olga Hayes on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
The last of the children born to Henrietta and Wilbert Mosher, Shirley lived her early years in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. After losing her own mother at a young age, she and new husband, Bert, left the Maritimes and brought her father west, to settle on the West Coast. Until recent years when dementia set in and robbed her of the ability to enjoy life to its fullest, Shirley was always active; she loved to golf, bowl and swim. Most summer days would find her heading to Elk Lake for a dip. She was an active member of the Altar Guild at Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church and she and Bert square danced and played bridge together for many years. Music was a big part of Shirley’s life; when her children were grown, she learned to play the piano and became a member of the University of Victoria chorus. She and Bert frequently travelled abroad and enjoyed many winters in California.
Predeceased in August 2016 by husband Bert after 67 years, she leaves behind daughters, Marlene (Jon) and Audrey; sons, Mark (Sugi) and Michael; grandchildren, Bethany, Colin, Brian (Chantelle), Julia, Sean and Nathaniel; step-grandchildren, Rick and Scott (Rebecca) and great-grandchildren, Tristan, Xander, Vivian, Gideon and Emma.
Memorial service will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 2 pm, at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, 4733 West Saanich Road in Victoria, BC.
