Susan passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria, BC, on August 23, 2016, surrounded by her immediate family. Survived by her loving husband Frank O’Meara and remembered with love and admiration by her sisters Sandy and Janice, her brother Tom, her son-in-law, John, her daughter-in-law, Jane and their families.

Susan grew up in Kingsville, Ontario. She lived life to the full, with a boundless sense of wonder and optimism, always believing yet another great adventure lay around the corner, just waiting to be discovered. She was seldom wrong. She showed us how to live and, ultimately, how to die with grace and courage.

In a 33-year teaching career in Ontario, with the North York and Peel Boards of Education, Susan touched the lives and minds of countless young people, many being newcomers to Canada from around the globe.

We express our profound thanks to the doctors and nurses of the BC Cancer Agency, Island Health Home Community Care nurses and the Victoria Hospice Society nurses and staff for their extraordinary level of support and professionalism throughout Susan’s illness. You truly made a difference.

Donations in Susan’s memory may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 3rd Floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, B C V8R 1J8  250-370-8715.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.
