Sylvia Voelk was born on September 7, 1914, in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan.  She passed away on February 4th, 2018 in Victoria, British Columbia.

She is one of nine children born to Elias and Mary Voelk. Elias and Mary moved to Canada from Richmond, Minnesota in 1905.  The original homestead was located approximately 7 miles east of Lake Lenore.  Elias came first and built their house.  At that time, the family consisted of Joe, Eleanor, Alphonse, Magdalene and Robert. Sylvia, Louise, Veronica, and Rosella were all born in Canada.

She was the last surviving member of her family and lived to be 103 years old.  She is survived by twenty-eight nieces and

nephews.

Sylvia moved to Victoria BC,  in 1944.  She loved living in

Victoria and could never be persuaded to move back to Saskatchewan.  She always lived in the downtown area of Victoria and for her final years, she had a wonderful room at the Glenshiel.

Her favorite job was working at the Morris Smoke Shop.  She shared many stories about the fun she had working there.  She also worked for the taxation department.

The Catholic church played a big part in her life and she was a member of the Catholic Women’s league.

Sylvia and Marge, her adopted niece, were best of friends.  Sylvia was a very proud and independent lady.  Marge was always there to help with anything she needed.

Some of their favorite outings were to the Blue Crab and The Keg.  Crab Cakes and Mimosas on Sundays were favorites.  These outings sometimes included some of her other special friends, Phyl Harris and Vern Richards.

She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.

Forever in our hearts.
