Anne passed away peacefully, while sleeping, at Victoria General Hospital, with her two children, Norine Hale and Cordell Lietz, at her bedside.

Born in Minitonas, Manitoba, Anne was the middle child of a family of 15. Her parents, Lazar and Jean Filuk, immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in the late 1920’s. Upon retirement Anne moved to Nanoose Bay, B.C. where she enjoyed the views of the ocean, the whales and the bald eagles. Her passion was the game of golf, where she excelled at the nearby Fairwinds Golf Club, becoming the Ladies Club Champion.

She later moved to Victoria, B.C. to be close to her daughter and grandchildren, where she lived out her life. Anne is survived by her two children and three grandchildren; Hannah Hale, Cordell Lietz Jr. and Neala Hale. Per Anne’s request, there will not be a memorial service.

I am so grateful to have had Auntie Anne in my life. While not related, I grew up knowing she was a great friend to my parents (Marilyn and Steve Naydiuk). We all admired her elegance, work ethic, strength of character and ability to effortlessly entertain – she always spoiled us. As an adult, I came to see her as a dear friend who was there to support and encourage me during my most difficult times. In the later years, our visits became a sweet opportunity to talk about her early years, her great love for her family and her friendship and memories of my parents. So Norine and Cordell, thank you for sharing your beautiful mom with me. My life has been richer because of her.
