In memory of Annie May Van Eaton (neé Ebeling)

Annie married Archie Van Eaton (predeceased 1998) on July 1 st , 1953 in Gull Lake, Alberta. They moved to Victoria on July 1st, in 1973.

After moving to the Saanich Peninsula, Annie (with Archie’s supervision) enjoyed raising chickens, turkeys and lambs as well as tending to a large vegetable garden. Goldie, their Jack Russell, was a much beloved member of their family.

Annie worked over 40 years for the Royal Bank in various locations in Alberta and BC, retiring twice from Greater Victoria Branches.

Especially after moving to Summergate in 1998, Annie had more time for her hobbies especially sewing, and more specifically, Quilting. Over the years, she made quilts for almost every member of both her and Archie’s families.

Annie almost always had a Sudoku book at hand. Crib was another favourite pastime; she had a rare 29 perfect hand while playing at the Legion in 1997 a one in 649,000 chance, according to the University of Victoria; though she also had a skunk trophy in her china cabinet.

Annie moved into Shoal Centre in 2020 and later to Rest Haven Lodge where she passed peacefully.

Annie is survived by her sister, cousin and numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of her family whom she loved dearly. She will be remembered as well by former Royal Bank co-workers, Summergate’s Quilters & Crafters, and many friends in Alberta and BC.

Annie will be missed – she always had a smile.

I remain very fond of Annie, a coworker and a friend. She called things as she saw them, and had a very dependable logic that cut through the frilly talk and got right to the core of the situation. She was kind and she was fun, and I trusted her with my company. She added competence, and sometimes hilarity, to the many groups that she called her own. She will be missed by so many.

I worked with Annie at RBC SIDNEY, fun gal, she always had a smile and a friendly hello.

I cared for Annie for several years while she was at Shoal Assisted Living in Sidney. She was a delight to all of the staff. I will never forget her sunny attitude; she was cheerful and always found something to smile about. I am grateful I had a chance to know her.
