It is with great sadness that we announce our mom and grandma’s passing on February 27, 2023.  She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Peter, and sons Rob (Elaine), Jack (Fei), Lee (Leslie) and grandchildren Mia, Brandon, Melody, Oliver and Eron and her sisters Jean and Cindy, and extended family.

Brenda was born in Canton, China and immigrated to Victoria, BC in 1965 with her parents and siblings (Cindy and the late Ken Woo). She married Peter in January 1973 and together they owned and operated Parkview Store in Cordova Bay and East Saanich Road store in Dean Park. The next three decades kept them busy and active raising three boys and running the neighbourhood stores. Connecting with generations of customers brought Brenda much joy with many children in the area excited to visit what was known as the ‘candy store’, ‘ice cream store’ or most fondly – ‘Brenda’s store’.  Despite long hours at the store she always made time for her family, cooking good meals and being there for her three boys. Brenda and Peter retired in 2005 and spent several winters RV’ing in the southern US. The following years brought many happy times welcoming grandchildren as their family gatherings grew larger with each grandchild. Since retirement Brenda experienced numerous health challenges however, she faced all difficulties with strength and patience, supported always with Peter at her side.

Special thanks to Dr. Woodley and his team over the years, the staff at Victoria General Hospital and to Lucy for the care Brenda received in her final few weeks after suffering a massive stroke in January. Our sincere appreciation as well to members of the Victoria Stroke Recovery Association and the Saanich Peninsula Stroke Recovery Association.

We are grateful, Mom, for your love and support over the years. You will be missed.

A Viewing will be held in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will be at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4763 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Attendees will meet at the front gates at 1:45 pm and will convoy to the burial site.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of Mrs Wong who was a gentle and kind person to everyone she met. Her memory will live on through the love and kindness she shared with those around her. It is clear that she and Mr. Wong made a significant impact on so many lives, treating so many of us like family and for me helping to shape some of the best parts of my childhood and throughout my life. May her legacy continue to inspire us all and bring comfort to all who knew her.
