It is with profound sadness that we announce our beloved Bruce passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.  Bruce was predeceased by his older brother Ken and parents Ronald and Lillian.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Anne of 48 years, son Geoff (Jackie), daughter Joelle (Blair), grandchildren Jane, Aaron and Jeremy, twin brother and best buddy Brian (Karen), sister Norma and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of incredible friends.

Bruce earned his Certified Management Accountant designation in 1973 while working for multi-national companies within the forestry and fishing sectors before moving to public practice, receiving his Certified General Accountant designation in 1986.  Bruce then founded Maycock and Company and during the next 30 years grew his core business to serve self-employed professionals, owner-managed businesses and estates. Bruce transitioned his accounting practice during the last few years, to be managed by his partners and looked forward to a reduced workload focusing on estates and complex tax issues.

Sadly, Bruce did not have long to enjoy semi-retirement with family and friends, as his health declined rapidly in recent months. His last month was spent at home and he died as he lived – his kind and gracious nature never left him.  Until the end, he was more concerned about his family’s needs than for himself.

Bruce’s happy place was working in his incredible garden.  There wasn’t a specialty nursery that did not know him, whether it was in Brentwood Bay, up-Island, Vancouver or Salt Spring Island.  Other favourite pastimes included watching all the birdfeeders from his tea house and driving either his 1934 Singer or 1958 Morgan with family.  He was an active member and Treasurer of the Old English Car Club and Victoria Rhododendron Society.

We will never forget his little smile and gentle guiding hand in all aspects of our lives.  His zest for life and determination was an inspiration for all of us and we will dearly miss him.

A Celebration of “Bruce’s Life” will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, B.C. on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Victoria Cancer Society, 101-1537 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, BC V8T 2C1.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was saddened to learn today of Bruce’s passing. I knew him in the mid 80’s in passionate debates at the CGA tax study group, and as a fellow public practitioner.

Bruce was a gentleman and an outstanding professional – the very best of the breed.

I met Bruce about 13 years ago. We were both new owners at 2020 Richmond and both served on Strata Council. I only found out today of his passing.
I had not seen him around the building for a while and assumed he was enjoying retirement. In my mind, I saw him driving his Morgan in the summer sun with a smile on his face.
In reading the book of condolence, I am struck by how often his grace, humour and fair nature are described. He was thoughtful, considerate, and gentle. He was proud of his family. He spoke of them with pride and humour.
He took pride in his business and carried it with integrity. We consulted each other on cases, and I respected his opinion greatly. I am saddened by his passing.

My sympathies to Anne and the family, friends and coworkers of Bruce. He was such a gentle, warm presence whenever we spoke and our clients in common received and will continue to receive wonderful care by the Maycock team. Wishing you all peace at this difficult time.

20 years ago, Bruce was so kind to me as a young businesswoman. He took the time to meet with me and offer his wise counsel even though at that time I didn’t represent a big account. I was so sad to hear of his sudden passing. I know he will be missed by his family, co-workers and all of us in the community who will no longer have the chance to hear his words of wisdom or enjoy his stories.

Bruce was such a kind and wonderful man. I so appreciated his help and support during my term as President of the BC CGAs. Gone much too young. I’m sure he will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences.

Bruce was a wonderful man; friendly, outgoing, personable. I often think of him, and brother Brian, knocking around my retail store together, and finding just the right things. I’ll forever remember his outgoing nature, and smiling face.
    Hail and farewell Bruce.

Much too soon gone! Bruce will be sorely missed by so many of us who considered him not only our trusted accountant but a good friend as well. He took a genuine interest in the vagaries of my particular business, and, no matter what the financial numbers said, we always found something to laugh about.

I’m very sad to read of Bruce’s passing. The world was a much nicer place with him in it. His humour and guidance helped me greatly through some very stressful times. My deepest condolences to his family and friends

Bruce will be sadly missed. He was a gentle and kind soul. He always had time to share a funny story and some laughter with his friends.

  • Paul and Diane Erickson

Bruce was an extraordinary and exceptional person. We met him on the soccer field, as our sons played together and later he became our personal and corporate accountant. We looked forward to our meetings with him; no other accountant would have had such wide ranging and engaging interests and opinions. He was always positive, optimistic and gracious. We will miss him greatly and send our heartfelt sympathies to his family.
