Peacefully passed away at the age of 87 into the arms of his Lord and Saviour on April 8, 2021. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at The Heights at Mt. View for the loving care that he was given while he was there.

Carlos was predeceased by his loving wife, Almerinda; father, Luis Braga; mother, Maria Jermina; son, Carlos Albert; brothers, Gregorio and Ezekiel; sisters, Isabel and Noemia; and his grandbaby, Simon. He is survived by his five children; son, Carlos Bobby and daughters, Dalila (John), Linda (Robert), Almerinda and Jeanine (Norman); sister, Eduarda; brother, Paul and 19 loving grandchildren, Adam, Troy, Lucas, Chelsea (Shiraz), Nicholas, Mariah (Daniel), Elijah, Kirkland, Bronte, Bella, Violet, AJ (Adara), Jordyn, Rozalina, Ethan, Bianca, Matias, Levi, Laila and his first great-grandchild who is due in May.

Carlos was born on November 4, 1933 in Água de Pau, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 and made Victoria his home. Carlos was instrumental in helping new Portuguese emigrants set up their new lives here in Victoria and he sponsored many of his own family members and helped them become Canadian citizens.

Carlos was a devoted Christian, who loved the Lord and served Him by loving others. He was a master class barber and hairstylist and the owner of Mayfair Unisex Hairstyling Salon for many years. He had many devoted clients and several of them became third-generation clients. He learned the trade at the young age of nine from his father and grandfather. Carlos loved the game of soccer and was one of the original founders of the Portuguese soccer team, Mayfair Clippers, which later became known as FC Sagres.

Carlos was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and loyal friend to all. His wonderful sense of humour, his joyful presence and his kindhearted generosity will be missed by all.

With Covid-19 protocols in place, a private service will be held at the Royal Oak Burial Park where Carlos will be interred next to his wife, Almerinda.

He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever.

I’m so sorry to hear about cousin Carlos passing. I had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago when my family visited Victoria. My dad Norberto Moniz sends his condolence to the entire family. Carlos was indeed a special person.
