Died peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2017 of progressive supranuclear palsy.  Carolle was born in Calgary, Alberta on December 24, 1935 to David and Elsie Oliphant.  She grew up in Victoria and graduated from Victoria High School.  She met her love and best friend, Stewart, at Fairfield United Church Sunday School, and they were married at the church on July 24th, 1954.

Carolle was involved with many aspects of Fairfield United, including the CGIT and Friendship Club, and she sang in the choir for many years.  She loved her fitness classes and was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization.  Carolle was devoted to her family and friends.  She and Stewart were the centre of the family, and we are all grateful to have had her in our lives.  She kept her grace and sense of humour right up to the end.

Carolle is survived by her loving family: five children, David (Anna), Leslie Flaro (Chris), Russell, Robert (Margo) and Jamie (Wendy Gordon); grandchildren Iain, Alison, Gordon, Adam, Andrew, Samuel, Robin, Madden, Reece and Shea; great-grandchildren Sebastian, Harper, David, Steven and Brielle, and a large extended family.  She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Dawson; brothers Glenn and Alan; and is survived by her brother Kenneth (Lorraine) and sister-in-law Kathryn Oliphant.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the exceptional care Carolle received from the staff at Hart House.

“The mother memories that are closest to my heart are the small gentle ones that I have carried over from the days of my childhood. They are not profound, but they have stayed with me through life, and when I am very old, they will still be near.”

A service in memory of Carolle’s life will be held at Fairfield United Church, 1303 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., followed by a reception at The University Club, West Campus Way at UVic.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Carolle may be made to The Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank, 625 Queens Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8T 1L9.

My Nana loved God, loved her family, and loved all people around her. She loved life!
Nana and Grandad took me to church whenever I asked to go. We had so many good times together. They always planned fun things for the whole family to do together. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, everyone included.
I’m so glad my children were able to meet her.
I wish I could tell her how much I love her and what she meant to me. She was an amazing person, and an amazing Nana. Everyone will miss her so much.

I have enjoyed knowing your Mom since high school days. She was a lovely lady in all respects.
I love this poem. I want to share it with you as she joins Stu and siblings.
People disappear, but they never really go away.
The spirits up there put the sun to bed, wake up the grass and spin the earth in dizzy circles.
Sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud in the daytime when they’re supposed to be sleeping.
They paint the rainbows and also the sunsets and make waves splash and tug the tide.
They toss shooting stars and listen to wishes and when they sing windsongs, they whisper to us
    “Don’t miss me too much
The view is nice, and I’m doing just fine”.

I was very fortunate to spend time with the McIntosh’s as a young girl. They were (and I am sure still are)a fun filled, caring family who were guided under the direction of two loving parents.Mrs. McIntosh was always so patient, kind and willing to include her children’s friends in so many ways.I have many memories, but two that come to mind are Mrs. McIntosh driving her old jalopy, and giving it a very endearing name that I have long forgotten, and Mr. and Mrs. McIntosh holding hands back then and in much later years when I ran into them. It was always obvious how much they loved each other, and how that love enveloped their family and friends. They set a great example.

Our condolences to your family. Bob and I had the honour of getting to know your Mom when we were at Hart House. I remember her elegant determination, but mostly I remember how much she would light up when any of you visited. It was very evident that she loved you all dearly, and was proud of everyone. She will live on in your hearts forever.

I fondly remember Mrs. McIntosh as a very gracious and kindly lady of the “old school” who was genuinely interested in and cared about other people. She lived a life anyone would be proud of. Sympathies to David and all the McIntosh family on your loss. God bless.
