Cheryl was born in Victoria and grew up in Cordova Bay before moving to Colwood then East Sooke. Cheryl worked for Ballantyne’s florists, Capital Iron, Computer master training and finally retired from Royal Roads University in 2018. Cheryl could remember names and faces of people she met only once or twice and recognize and remember them years later. Cheryl always had a big smile and made every one she met feel comfortable and welcome. She loved to bake big desserts to take to special occasions at family or friends. Also, she enjoyed to go camping at every opportunity. She would be the first to help friends with any type of project or support them in any way she could. Cheryl liked to sew, making all the drapes for the house or patching and mending many pairs of her husband’s jeans. She loved flowers and liked to garden at home tending the rose garden and making hanging baskets and flower pots, usually about 35 of them.
Cheryl passed away after a short battle with cancer and is survived by her husband, Ken, of 46 years; brothers, Walt (Jackie), Wayne (Andrea); sister-in-law Norma; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her friend and cousin Marlyn; friends Lavyna, Cindy, Jennifer, Juanita, Wes and Linda. She also leaves her best friends from grade school, Joyce and Kathy and so many more.
The world will be a lesser place without Cheryl

Charlene Kendall Burles I was very sad to read of Cheryl’s passing. Whenever I ran into her (which was fairly often) she was always so friendly and upbeat. Our fathers worked together in the 1970’s. She was the type of person, once a friend always a friend. I remember attending Cheryl and Ken’s wedding as a teen. It was a fun event full of love and happiness. I believe I recall their wedding song as “We have only just Begun”. Cheryl will be sadly missed but always remembered. Condolences to Ken, Walt, Wayne and families on this sorrowful loss.
I had the pleasure of working with Cheryl at RRU at University Reception for a few years. There were three of us working together and even after she and I retired all three of us still kept in touch. She will be missed and she will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with Ken at this difficult time.
