On September 3, 2022, Danilo Danzo passed away peacefully at home while listening to his favourite traditional Italian music. Born in Valdagno, in the province of Vicenza, Italy on July 16, 1932 to Attilio and Giuseppina Danzo, he was the youngest of nine children and survived all of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Jane, his daughter Sarah (Kim Linkert), his grandchildren Hugo and Greta, his nephews in Italy, Andrea (Margherita) and Stefano (Sabrina), his sisters-in-law Patricia Hovey and Margaret Beck, and his nephews Robert Hovey (Bethany), Robert Beck (Shana) and James Beck (Shannon).

In 1956, 24 year old Danilo, (Danny) emigrated from Italy to Canada in search of a better life. Upon arrival, he spoke no English, had minimal formal education, and little money in his pocket, but he found the opportunities for success on Vancouver Island. He was blessed with intelligence, vision, an innate business sense, and a work ethic that knew few boundaries. He spent five decades achieving the “American Dream”. Over the years, people of all ages inspired by his story sought his advice. Grateful for the respect, and delighted to help whomever he could, he encouraged the young to pursue their education and insisted that Canada was still the land of opportunity.

For their respectful, excellent and enduring care, the Danzo family wishes to thank Dr. Geoffrey Luckhurst, Dr. David Miller, Dr. Conrad Rusnak, Dr. David Pearson as well as Dr. Pai and Dr. Pagrasi of the RJH geriatric outpatient clinic. The Danzos are also very grateful to Russell Ikalina for her 7 years of service to the family, specifically, the exceptional in-home care she gave to Danilo.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, 740 View St. Victoria BC on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 3pm.

If you wish to make a donation, please send to a charity of your choice or to BC Diabetes or the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.

Jane, Sarah and family. My deepest condolences for your loss. Danny was such an amazing man, I have fond memories of working for him on the redevelopment of what is now the Rialto. It remains one of my favourite projects simply because of his vision, energy and sense of humour. Sending much love.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Danilo, I had the pleasure to play tennis and hunt with him and Joe and my dad. When I got older I didn’t cross with him much but was happy to share some words at a DaVinci Centre meeting. The support from him and his family to ours exemplified the essence of Danilo as I see it. He will be missed and well loved.
