It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Darlene. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Predeceased by her brother Rick in 1992, father John in 2015 and mother Hazel in 2020. She leaves, to mourn her passing, her husband Bill Newburg, daughters Andrea Plaisier and Lisa Newburg, grandsons Will and Lincoln Plaisier, sisters Susan Aldridge and Sonya (Paul) Russell as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene was born and raised in Victoria and embraced her community throughout her life. She was a great friend to many and remained active until recent times. Darlene was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Oak Bay and completed a 37-year distinguished career at CIBC where she retired as the manager of the Oak Bay branch in 2013. Darlene also enjoyed travelling, crafting, reading and gardening. She received the most joy from spending time with her family and friends. Darlene will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
We wish to thank Dr. Mursell, Dr. McGhie and staff at the cancer clinic for the care provided to Darlene during her long struggle with brain cancer.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with reception to follow.
If you are unable to attend with us in person, please join us virtually via zoom.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion Foundation and/or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dear Bill, Andrea, Lisa and Families,
We are so sad to hear of Darlene’s passing. Darlene is a beautiful person who fought a hard battle. I remember when we lived on Loenholm Place, being her neighbour was a delight. Darlene had a quick whit and always made me smile. May your memories wrap around all of you at this difficult time. The world is a better place because Darlene was in it. I am grateful that I got to know her. May she rest easy watching over all those hear on earth!

Bill and the entire Family,
If we have a quarter the strength Darlene had,
and knowing the love she held for all of you,
you will find comfort.
Warm hugs from my heart to yours.
The universe has shared you with us.
We have lost, but also gained by having you here.
This world was a better place with you in it.
We are blessed.
Rest well Bella, till next time.
Bill, Lisa and Andrea,
Colin and I offer our condolences to you and the rest of the family. Darlene was very special woman and we were lucky to have her as a friend and neighbour. She was kind, thoughtful, and generous as well as having a wonder sense of humour. We had great conversation over the backyard fence and lots of fun during house parties and other events. I admired her devotion to her family plus her strength and courage through difficult times. She was loved and she will be greatly missed.

Darlene was a lady of love, laughter and courage. She gave so much to her Family, career and her community. I was blessed to know Darlene as a friend, neighbour and co-worker and we certainly enjoyed many laughs over the years. Please know that you have many friends and family who are with you through this journey.
Please accept my sincerest condolences.
My condolences to all of Darlene’s family, whom I know she held so dear. I worked with Darlene for 6 months, and she was a very special person – so much more than a boss – she was patient, kind, caring, understanding & unflappable. She spoke of her family often, and valued every moment she spent with you. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. My sympathies & thoughts are with you all.
I always enjoyed a giggle with Darlene when we lived on Loenholm Place. I bumped into Darlene and you Bill at Uptown about a year or so ago – even with all she was dealing with Darlene had something to say to make me laugh.
My heartfelt condolences Bill, Andrea and Lisa.
To Bill and Family

I had the pleasure of getting to know Darlene over the years at CIBC and even though we never got to work together at the same branch she was always so warm and friendly. You could tell she genuinely cared about her staff and coworkers. During the time I worked with Lisa at Hillside many years ago, I could see there was a very beautiful bond between mother and daughter. Praying that you will find comfort in your memories of your very special Mom

Our paths crossed many times during our careers at CIBC especially after my retirement when she was Manager of our Oak Bay branch. Darlene was a very special human being whose smile brought light to everyone’s day by always being engaged, caring, and interested in those she touched. Quietly she made a difference and will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.

My condolences on the passing of Darlene after her long battle with cancer. She was a wonderful, kind and caring person and I was proud to call her my friend. I remember with a smile our time together working at CIBC and being able to reconnect with her and Bill upon my return to Victoria.
My deepest sympathies to you all.
We are all so saddened back here in Ontario. We so enjoyed our chats and texts. We never had the time with you that we would have liked to, but what little time we shared you were always cheery and upbeat. You are well respected and loved by all of us back here at home. Hugs for all the family from all your family here.
Hugs to all of you.
She was my best friend for 54 years and I will miss her so much,
She was such a beautiful kind person and such an inspiration to me. Her strength always impressed me and has made an impact on me that will last forever.
Until we meet again Darlene. Love you forever. Xoxo

Saddened to hear about her passing.
Sincere condolences to her family.
She was a true professional with a excellent disposition in my encounters with her as a client while she was a CIBC manager at the Oak Bay branch. These days it is difficult to find excellent bank managers.
She will be terribly missed.
Lisa and family,
Sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. May the beautiful memories you shared with her, help you through this difficult time. Heaven gained an angel. You will forever have an angel watching over you, and by your side.
Sending you deepest sympathy and love.
To Bill and family, there are no words to express the feelings you are having for your loss, Darlene was such a strong fighter. I was pleased to have talked with her at our summer block gathering. Her strength and determination and humour was deep. I lost my sister to cancer a year ago and every time I think of her I remember us laughing and reflecting on our family moments. Hopefully remembering Darlene and the energy she gave to her family and others will help you get through these times. Take care.
My hugs to you all. Darlene was a tough trooper and I enjoyed all of our conversations, visits and Facebook banter :). ❤️
To Bill and family,
It was such a pleasure working with Darlene. We admired her determination and strength. She will be truly missed.
You are in our thoughts,
