Taken from us too soon, Diane passed away on August 23, 2017 at home in Victoria.  Born in London, Ontario on May 8, 1956, Diane is survived by her husband, Dan Barcelo; sons, Colton and Grayson; siblings, Donna Leavitt, Dorothy Stojkiewicz and John Lyle, as well as her extended family and friends.  Predeceased by her mom, Joan Lyle.

Di loved life and always tried to see the positive side. She was artistic and loved to create art from all sorts of mediums, from paints to pencil drawings to refurbishing an old filing cabinet with sunflowers. Di also loved shiny things, like crystals, and stringing them with meaningful beads. (Dan would say you like sparkly things). She had many hobbies, including genealogy which became her newest passion.  She loved to study the lineages to get the stories straight and for the family tree. She was a loving wife to Dan and a loving and dedicated mother to her sons. Di worked hard all her life and loved learning new things. Always in customer service, she was well liked by customers and co-workers.  She was always willing to lend a hand to help whomever.  She loved to laugh and enjoy good wine and food with close friends and family.

Special thanks to Dr. Bridger, Janice, Muriel and Dr. Bax, all the ladies at Beacon Homecare, Dr. Briemberg in Vancouver, ALS Society, and to all the VIHA staff.

A Celebration of Diane’s Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Sunday, September 17 at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ALS Society.

So very sorry to read of Diane’s passing. First met Diane at a business meeting years ago and we had many a fine time together looking for prospects for the business. Dan was building the house in the Highlands and along with Diane were the young boys living in a trailer! What a time it was. Diane was always industrious and creative and I enjoyed our brief working relationship. Again my heartfelt condolences for your loss Dan and family.

    Dear Dan, Colton and Grayson,

Our deepest sympathies to you on the loss of Diane. We have many fond memories of her over the years here in the Highlands. She was always pleasant and engaging in conversation. No one will ever forget her epic pinatas, a hi-lite on Halloween night at the East Hall – always eagerly anticipated by the children. We hope you find comfort in all the happy memories of Diane. She will not be forgotten.

Very sorry to read of Diane’s death. As a customer of Nex Gen Hearing I saw her often: always a friendly greeting, always an extra effort to be helpful, I often paused for a brief chat and I used to ask after her when she first left the company. I had no idea her health problems were so serious. My most sincere condolences.

    Dear Dan, Colton and Grayson
Hearing of Diane’s passing instantly brought sadness and the thought that the world has forever lost a true gem. Diane was a rock for so many and did all she did with such grace and kindness. So many of our Highlands kids will always remember those amazing East Highlands Fire Department Halloween parties that Diane would organize as well and her ever famous piñatas. She has left this world far to early but certainly not without leaving us with fond memories and better people for knowing her. When one thinks about a women being a devoted wife and fabulous mother surely Diane comes to ones mind. She will be so missed by her family and many friends. Diane, you will be a shining star forever in all our eyes

    Dear Dan, Colton and Grayson

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your beloved wife and mother. Diane was a pleasure to work with and we still miss her her bubbly, kind personality. Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that we feel. May our prayers bring you peace during this painful time.
Take comfort in the words of the poem God Saw You Getting Tired, by Frances and Kathleen Coelho.

    God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around you
    And whispered “Come to me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you
    As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
    We couldn’t make you stay.

    Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
    He only takes the best.
