Born November 23rd, 1942, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Earl and Vera Storey. Diane passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, surrounded by her adoring daughters, Susan, Lesley and Jill.
Prior to Diane becoming a loving wife and mother, she had an exemplary career as a registered nurse and met her husband, James Stakiw, at the Winnipeg General Hospital. He was a dental student at the time and she came to his rescue after he’d cut his finger on a test tube. He immediately saw the inner and outer beauty of this incredibly special person and they were married until Jim’s passing on March 17th, 2020, in Victoria, B.C.
Diane was someone who drew people to her because of her innate ability to find joy and humour in life. She had lifelong, dear friends in London, Ontario, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon. Diane was also an inspiration to everyone she met due to her unwavering strength and positivity while battling Multiple Sclerosis for decades.
To her family, Jim (2020), Susan, Lesley, Laura (1988) and Jill, her brother Syd and grandchildren Nicole, Parker, Lochlan, Blake, James and Peri, she was the purest of light and love and she will be greatly missed. We “loved her more”.
Her life will be honoured privately by her family, but Diane carried many happy memories of friendships with her.
“Fly, fly precious one,
Your endless journey has begun,
Take your gentle happiness,
Far too beautiful for this,
Cross over to the other shore,
There is peace forevermore “-C.D.
