It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce Mom’s peaceful passing from her home, with family by her side, into the arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Born August 9, 1935, in Victoria, BC, Doreen was adopted by Horace and Emma Drury at 3 months of age and grew up on their dairy farm on Cedar Hill Road.  She attended Cedar Hill and Mt. Doug schools where she was an accomplished basketball player and pianist.

As a member of St. Luke’s choir, she caught the eye of Charles Borden, an altar boy, and a match was made in heaven.  Doreen and Charlie would wait until she finished her nursing degree to get married, rushing home from their honeymoon after their wedding April 20, 1957, to attend her graduation ceremony from Royal Jubilee Hospital’s School of Nursing.  They completed their family with the birth of three children.  She was a devoted mother to Brenda (Dan), Stephen (Sue) and Nancy (Sonny); devoted grandmother to Tim (Jaclyn) and Kate (Tony), Alea (Travis) and Chelsea (Shea), Hayley and Luke and great-grandmother to Emily, Ava, Lacey, Denver, Charlie and Loki. Children, plants, and animals all flourished under her tender care.

Some of her gifts to the world were her missionary work. She served abroad in Ethiopia and at home at Camp Qwanoes and Saanich Baptist Church.

Finding her birth family was a gift she received later in life through the curiosity of John P and Shea.   We are so thankful for their information and welcome to the “new” side of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to Camp Qwanoes (www.qwanoes.ca), Saanich Baptist Church (www.saanichbaptist.org) or the BC Cancer Society (www.donate.bccancerfoundation.com)
