It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doreen Evelyn Marsh on October 1, at age 92.

Doreen is survived by her brother Rick (Leanne) Marsh, stepson Keith Piddington (Randie), nephews Josh, Chris (Jess), and Michiel, and many friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Dorothy Marsh, her husband Frank, and her nephew Justin.

Doreen was born in Vancouver and in her early years studied voice and music in London, England.  In later years she played the harp.  She loved and supported all the arts, regularly attending galleries, concerts, and theatre.  She worked for several decades for Trans Mountain, thriving on the organizational and communication challenges of an office environment.  She was an avid reader.  She studied comparative religion in her youth, taught herself sign language, and had a special fondness for Japanese culture.

She also loved sailing.  In 1985 she married Frank Piddington and moved to Victoria, where together they enjoyed life being active with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, entertaining friends in their home, and traveling.  She also loved animals, especially dogs, and with her mother developed Mardeen Kennels, specializing in Keeshonden (an affectionate Dutch breed adept at being on boats).  She was also an accredited dog show judge, and regularly was invited to judge shows across Canada and internationally.

Special thanks to the dedicated staff at Amica on the Gorge for their kindness and thoughtful care.

A private service for family and friends will be planned for 2025.  In lieu of flowers, perhaps consider a donation to the animal charity of your choice.

Sincere condolences to Doreen’s family on her passing. I first met Doreen in 2007 at a dog show in Victoria where I was showing my Keeshond. I was new to conformation and she was so kind to offer assistance to me. My favorite memory is when she told me “your dog is very nice, but your handling is terrible” Hahaha It still makes me laugh to this day! She would tell me different things over the years of what to do, and she always loved seeing my different Kees, and was always so supportive. I always enjoyed seeing her at different shows over the years in Victoria and also in Nova Scotia when she was the Specialty judge.

    She will be fondly missed.
